Tips if you are going to do Hydrospeed in Spain

Are you tempted to finally throw yourself into the water and get on the water sled to descend a river? The experience offered by the hydrospeed can not be compared to any other sport, and is that here you will not be mounted on any boat, but you will be the one who slides through the water, properly equipped, as is logical. Are we going downstream?

1. Is surprisingly an easy concept



Instead of riding a kayak or a raft, you will go swimming through the water, leaning on a specific sled for this activity. This contraption allows you to turn and also protects you from friction with rocks when we pass through areas that are not too deep. This type of sled can be rigid (made of plastic materials), or pneumatic.

2. Different to the usual



We are very used to see the rivers plagued by canoes, canoes and other types of boats, and even people doing canyoning as a method of descent. However, the hydrospeed is much more exclusive and rare. It's just the new adventure you should discover!

3. The most authentic descent



Think about it. It is one thing to navigate the rapids on a small boat, and quite another to be the one who slips between them, face to face with the whitewater. Feeling part of the course of the river is something you can only achieve by swimming with this water sled. So, if you go in search of strong emotions and you like the aquatic environment, this is your thing.

4. To know how to swim is enough



If you were wondering what requirements are required to start in the hydrospeed, the answer is simple: you just need to swim and logically not afraid of water, since, as we have said, the sensations are very intense, but always being a safe activity. Also, as you will wear the fins, the effort to push you with your legs will be much less.

5. Greatly protected



No need to feel scared. That an activity is very exciting does not imply that you are taking a risk. So when you practice hydrospeed you will always go with a helmet that will protect your head, the neoprene suit with boots so that the low temperature of the river does not prevent you from enjoying the experience as it should, and a life jacket that will always keep you afloat even if you separate from the sled for any circumstance.

If you already have it decided and you're going to get into the river, sledding in hand, you should know that the areas of Spain where the practice of this sport is most common are Huesca and Lérida (without a doubt the Pyrenean areas are ideal for doing this activity ) followed by Pontevedra and Cantabria, although in the surroundings of Valencia and many other parts of our geography you will also find fun descents to make. As any sport that is practiced in the river, the season to perform hydrospeed depends on the flow we have, and this is given by the thaw season, with spring and early summer the star months to make the most exciting descents.
