Hiking is one of the healthiest and best ways to spend some quality time with your most beloved. Get outside and explore the wilderness – either with your nearest and dearest or by yourself – and bask in scenic views and reconnect with the beauty of nature. When you go hiking not only are you traversing the great outdoors, but you are also providing many health benefits to yourself. 1. Clear your mind



Our schedules are busier than they've ever been. Working nine to five, having full social schedules, and dealing with day-to-day life is enough to keep us at a constant state of tension beneath the surface. Hiking lowers blood pressure and cortisol levels, providing a relaxing effect that is only found in nature, and has been linked to the benefits of lowering stress levels and relieving anxiety, by quieting the mind and allowing you to focus on your breathing in a semi-meditative state. Head outside for some natural stress alleviation and an instant mood boost.

2. Reconnect with nature



Going for a hike when you're caught up in the urban race is an apt time to reflect, refuel, and reconnect with yourself when you've been too preoccupied to notice. Taking some time out and tuning into nature can sometimes help you figure out if you're feeling under the weather or if you've been more stressed than normal.

3. Live in the moment



When was the last time you focused solely on being present and in the moment? Getting out in nature lowers the barrier between you and the natural world in a beautiful and simple way. Everything is real and up close. There are no filters, only nature. Take a break from the addictiveness of social media, no posting, no tweets, no updates. 4. Hiking is healthy



Hiking provides a wide range of health advantages while posing few hazards. As a means of being physically active, it can help you lose weight, prevent heart disease, lower blood pressure, and slow the ageing process. It also helps with mental wellness by lowering stress and anxiety. Most people don’t realise that a long walk, say 10,000 steps, is just as good – if not better – for losing weight that going for a jog or a run. The lower intensity allows you to keep it constant for longer, and you don’t even realise how long you’ve been walking for when you’re lost in nature – you’ll be surprised at how many calories you burn!

5. Better sleep quality



Walking or climbing on uneven terrain consumes vastly more energy than walking or climbing on even ground. You're also removing all of the modern age stimuli that we're often exposed to during the day and shortly before bedtime (phones, computers, televisions, and other such devices). As a result, you'll get a better night's sleep!

The most beautiful part about going for a hike is that you can go whenever you want, wherever you want. All throughout the year, nature provides you with different environments and weather to enjoy – each with their own quirks.
