Company Overview

Since 1999 Active Outdoor Pursuits has been helping people discover the amazing adventure wonderland that is the Cairngorms National Park.

Located in the heart of Newtonmore, a village that is considered the very center of Scotland and the Highlands and stage of famous TV Show Outlander, we are a family company founded by Roy and Sophia Gibson. They both are professionals of outdoor activities and, 20 years ago, they decided to share their passion for this land and for sport.

Taking advantage of the features of Aviemore, where most of our sessions are held, we offer a great range of different activities like white water rafting, canyoning, skiing or hiking. We're proud to work in the first skiing area that was settled in Scotland and at a natural treasure like the Cairngorms where we find 5 of the 6 highest hills of our country.

To get to our headquarters, you only need to drive through the A86 and remember that you must check your tires before coming in order to have a safe drive.

Welcome to Active Outdoor Pursuits Aviemore, where the best plan and the greatness of Scotland can be found?

Summary Canoeing

Tour the stunning waterways of Aviemore and Cairngorms National Park and beyond with us at Active Outdoor Pursuits Canoeing.

As a company founded in 1999 and with over 20 years of experience, our main goal is to provide the best experiences to adventurers. That is something that we have achieved, and that we still work for achieving at the present, thanks to the incredible natural richness that surrounds us here, in the very heart of the Scottish Highlands

As canoeing deserves the best water flows, we use the incredible loches that are so popular in this part of the country. With their magical water levels, Active Outdoor Pursuits is considered one of the greatest schools to learn and practice canoeing. Did you know that we have been certified by the British Canoeing Union (BCU) and our instructors hold a 5-star training experience that it doesn't mean they are the best coaches in the field, but also that they have the safety and health training that any professional should have to provide stunning experiences like ours?

At this point, you may be wondering where we are exactly. Take notes! We are located in Newtonmore, considered the heart of the Sottish Highlands and a plae that has been used to film famous shows like Outlander. Getting there it's easy as you must drive the A86.

Don't miss the chance and come to meet us! The most fantastic anoeing sessions are waiting for you!

Summary Kayaking

Enjoy a great range of kayaking adventures that makes this sport available to everyone with Active Outdoor Pursuits Kayaking.

Using the vast and impressive venue, where water flows from the very center of the Highlands, we couldn't resist offering kayaking among our adventures

We've been working since 1999 to offer the best experiences to people who want to spend a wild time surrounded by nature, wildlife and marine beauty. With our 20 years of experience, we have accomplished that due to our effort and hard work to form a team where coaches receive the best training and where we, in general, follow the strict rules and the high standards of the associations that we are members of. Because of that, we have been awarded the John Muir Award, which praises our work and how we have integrated it protecting the environment and the land where we operate.

Specifically, you can find us in Newtonmore, a town that is considered the center of Scotland and the heart of the Scottish Highlands. It's a precious natural area where forest, water features and mountains are found. Did you know, for example, that 5 of the biggest mountains in Scotland are here, at the Cairngorms National Park?

You must drive carefully through the A86 road and, in a few minutes, you'll be reaching our installations.

Welcome to Active Outdoor Pursuits!

We have a great range of experiences for people of all levels of experience of ability from canyoning days for everyone 7 years and older to extreme days with 45-foot high cliff jumps and 120-foot abseils

Located in the very heart of the Scottish Highlands and the place where 5 of the 6 highest mountains of our country are found, Craigower Lodge is where our sessions take place. Though we are in a relatively remote area, it's easy to reach our headquarters driving the A86 road. In addition, we are surrounded by important and famous towns like Newtonmore, where the award-winning TV series Outlander have been filmed

In addition, our 20-year experience company, founded by Roy and Sophia Gibson in 1999, is part of the most important sports associations in the UK. To name a few, we must mention that we have been certified and that we follow the strict rules established by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA)

Without a doubt, the main difference and the main reason to trust in Active Outdoor Pursuits your canyoning adventures is the incredible land where we work. We have the best features and we can change location around the park depending on the weather.

Summary Rafting

Tackle some of the best raging rivers in the United Kingdom with Active Outdoor Pursuits Rafting.

A few miles from Newtonmore, where some scenes of TV show Outlander were filmed, and in the privileged natural park Cairngorms, we are a company that was founded back in 1999. Our more than 20 years of experience have helped us develop the greatest rafting experiences in the River Findhorn, one of the longest in our country.

As part of our commitment to excellence and safety, we are a member of important associations like the Institute for Outdoor Learning, where our instructors receive the best training for providing activities with all the guarantees.

How can you get to us? Easy, just take the A86 and remember that you must check your car's tires before coming as we are one of the coldest regions in Scotland.

Apart from what we have already said, we would like you to know that the Cairngorms is an area of spectacular natural beauty. In fact, the highest mountains of this part of the UK are spotted (we have five of the 6 highest hills in Scotland!) and the river where we'll be rafting has the perfect flow, making it the best for adventurers of different ages, from junior to senior.
