"The experience was very fun. We partook a clay pidgeon shoot that I bought for my Dad for Farthers Day. Unfortunately we weren't able to split up the clays that were included under one package, which was our original plan, instead we had to pay for an extra package. To be fair we didn't call ahead to see if we could do what we planned, but I also don't think it would hav been that difficult to allow us to do that. In the end thoug, we're glad we had more clays to play with and had a fantastic time."

As one of the nation’s favourite pastimes, clay pigeon shooting is loved by many. It’s a fantastic day out with friends or family, getting out into the countryside and releasing all the pent-up stress from the week just gone – then heading to the pub for a beautiful roast once the shoot is over. If you’re looking for a quintessentially British weekend experience, then clay pigeon shooting is most definitely for you! And if that’s not enough to convince you, here are our top 5 reasons why you should go clay pigeon shooting in the UK.

1. It’s an adrenaline rush



Shooting a shotgun for the first time is an adrenaline rush like no other. Feeling the heavy metal in your hands, the butt of the gun snugly pressed against your shoulder as you take aim and waiting to pull the trigger for the first time creates a sense of anticipation that is unmatched. When you finally take your first shot the endorphins released provides a sense of relief that never gets old – even when you’re a seasoned shot. It truly is addictive!

2. Great day out with friends and family



Whilst going shooting is an amazing experience solo, it’s even better when you share this experience with your nearest and dearest. Learning a new skill for the first time is an incredible way to make lasting memories and build the bonds of your relationships stronger than ever! 4. Improve your dexterity



Whether you’re a total beginner or a natural shot, going clay pigeon shooting will greatly improve your dexterity. You have to master your hand to eye coordination, following the clay as it completes its skyward trajectory, tracking it and waiting for the perfect moment to shoot – all of this requires great dexterity and predictive analysis skills, which will only improve throughout the day. Once you get past the initial skill curve, you will improve exponentially – and the more you improve, the more addictive it gets!

5. Increase your focus



When you’re looking down the sights of the gun, with only the sound of your breathing and the clay ahead of you, your focus increases tenfold. With clay pigeon shooting, you’ll train yourself to zone in on one specific target amidst a huge area of space and learning to track it accurately and effectively is key to making the shot. This greatly improves your concentration and increases your focus, not only for shooting but it can help with everyday life too!

When should I go Clay Pigeon Shooting in the UK?



Clay pigeon shooting is available all year round – it’s just as enjoyable in the winter wrapped up in your favourite coat, as in summer with the warmth of the sun on your back. The only advise we would give is try to avoid going when it’s raining! We realise that this happens often in the UK, but it can be damage the mechanics of the shotguns and it’s just not so fun to be standing out in the rain all day. But other than that, you can go whenever you want!
