Picos de Europa Ring Trek 4 days

Trekking of four stages duration in the Picos de Europa. Specifically, we will connect the three refuges of the Western Massif of the Picos de Europa, in one of the trekkings with the best effort/reward ratio that you can find in the Picos de Europa. In this trek we will visit sheepfolds where we can meet shepherds making Gamoneu cheese, we will walk along the Senda del Cares and through high mountain areas, where the limestone turns the landscape into a true stone desert. We will sleep in mountain shelters. These are the 4 stages of this Trekking:

Stage 1: CAIN – VEGA DE ARIO

Starting from Caín we will begin this stage walking along the popular Senda del Cares. After walking a few kilometers along the Cares route, we arrive at the entrance to the Trea Canal, the hardest ascent of the entire trek, which will help us get into shape. facing successive stages. After several hours of ascent along the Trea channel, we finally arrive at the Vega de Ario, an impressive sheepfold hanging from the heights, where the greenery merges with the walls of the endless list of peaks that surround us at all four points. cardinals. We will spend this first night at the Vega de Ario shelter.

Stage 2: VEGA DE ARIO – VEGARREDONDA

Very quiet stage, in which we will tour some of the sheepfolds where we can see the cabins where the shepherds of the Picos de Europa live during the summer. Always walking through green pastures and in a slight descent, we will reach the vicinity of Lake Ercina, which we will have to skirt to continue flattening, now along a wide track that will take us to Vega la Piedra. From here we will continue on an easy ascent that takes us, with a gentle slope, to Vegarredonda. At the Vegarredonda Refuge we will spend this second night.

Stage 3: VEGARREDONDA – VEGABAÑO

Queen stage and contrasts. We go uphill, in search of the Collado de les Merines, the highest ascent of the day, from which we will immerse ourselves in a lunar world, where the aridity of the terrain that we will encounter as we pass will make us feel as if we were inside of a stone desert. Only the greenery of the pastures of Vegahuerta, at the foot of the always impressive Peña Santa de Castilla, breaks the uniformity of the stone decoration. Once we arrive at this oasis, little by little, we will approach, through always favorable terrain, the impressive forests of Vegabaño. We will spend this last night at the Vegabaño shelter.

Stage 4: VEGABAÑO – CAIN

Again a break. This last stage is perhaps the simplest of the four. Coming out from the shelter,We will begin a comfortable ascent to the Puertos de Dobres, the highest point of the stage, from which we will begin the descent to Posada de Valdeón, along a very comfortable path. And from Posada de Valdeón, along wide tracks and roads, we return again to Caín. Here we will put an end to these four days of adventure in the Picos de Europa National Park.
