Caving in the Tibigracias La Vecilla cave

If you are one of those who enjoys a good canyoning route, we want to introduce you to its antithesis, caving. This adventure sport forgotten by many is a real delight and promises the same as canyoning, only in a more exciting way, underground. That's why we have a great plan drawn up and all we need is you, a caving route through the Tibigracias cave, in the Leonese town of La Vecilla.

This region is a true Eden for a caving route due to the infinity of caves it has, but this one is undoubtedly really special and unique. But before getting into what interests us all, first we want to tell you that you won't need anything. You will only have to come with sports clothing, wellies, a towel and a change of clothes. Forget about anything else because we will take care of all the materials and the professional guide.

Not everyone can sign up for a caving route, although the Tibigracias cave is undoubtedly an exception, since even children of at least 10 years old u> will be able to accompany you, the only thing necessary is a relatively good physical condition. This cave is located in the Hoces de Valdeteja and to get to know it we will undertake a 1 kilometer route with 40 meters of elevation gain.

The Tibigracias Cave has spectacular beauty and we will see it from the beginning, after passing through its main mouth, which is 5 meters wide by 2 meters high. Overcoming its entrance will lead us to a ramp that will take us to two small, very narrow openings that we will crawl through. When we pass this part and are already on our feet, we will be stunned to see that we will be facing a sinuous underground meander.

We will then be in the course of a huge river that runs through the entire Tibigracias cave and this is what undoubtedly represents the great attraction of this caving route. To think that even in the bowels of the earth, nature makes its way at all costs, leaving before us a beautiful natural landscape and its own ecosystem, will leave us speechless. We will see how this part is divided into two.

• The first section of the caving route through Tibigracias is just about 200 meters and runs in a northwest/southeast direction. During this stretch we will swim and wade through its underground river, which will be cloistered between enormous walls.

• The second part begins after leaving behind a chain of galleries that form a slightly wider upper floor. Continuing our path, curiosity will invade our body when we come across someSpectacular fossil galleries. In this part we will see speleothems, pools flooded with water and small cracks to pass through.

Once this part is over, we arrive at a room that is a real chaos due to the immense amount of rocks and clay collapses it has. In this area the contrast is intense since, from crawling on the ground and swimming through underground rivers, we will find ourselves in galleries of 400 square meters with ceilings more than 20 meters high. From here what we have left is to continue along a short path until we reach the end of the Tibigracias cave.
