General information
Company Overview
Our Excelsus Plongée center is located in the Pointe des Châteaux activity zone in Saint-Leu, on the west coast of Reunion. We welcome holidaymakers who have never breathed underwater as well as divers from the island who wish to train or go out to sea all year round, with a team of instructors who are all state qualified.
Our outings cover the coast from Pointe au Sel to Passe de l’Ermitage, on sites classified as marine nature reserves. These funds are of volcanic origin. Old lava flows and ravines have left drop-offs, canyons and coral plateaus. Our program includes the Grand Tombant de la Pointe au Sel and the Passe de l’Ermitage, as well as Bossy’s Canyon or the wreck of the Antonio Lorenzo.
For a first approach, we offer guided surface snorkeling, baptism diving from 8 years old and SSI Basic Diver initiation. Certified divers go on supervised or independent explorations with rental equipment. We also provide SSI training from Open Water to specialties such as nitrox, night diving or wreck diving. On the French level side, we train PE40 and PA20 up to level 3.
Diving is practiced here all year round in water which goes from around 23 degrees during the southern winter to 28 degrees in summer. Visibility is often good from April to November, and from July to October you can hear the song of humpback whales underwater. We decide to go out based on the sea state and not the weather on land. A strong swell, strong wind or current can therefore lead us to postpone an outing, and we will then offer you another date or a refund.
The center is open every day with one departure in the morning and another in the afternoon. As it is not by the sea, you will have to come by car, but the journey to the port can be done by carpooling with other divers. To reach us, turn left towards Les Colimaçons just before entering Saint-Leu, at Kélonia.
The equipment is provided and can be tested on site. On the way back, you will find hot showers, individual cabins and coffee facilities. Non-diving companions can sometimes come on board depending on space available, but our premises are not accessible to people with reduced mobility.
