ANA CEBRIAN
"We loved it! Jorge, a very good professional and knowledgeable in the subject, has taught us to know and understand with his passion and experience a multitude of aspects about everything that surrounds and encompasses the mysterious world of mushrooms, transmitting his knowledge in a simple, enjoyable and, above all, practical way. Totally recommended if you want to carry out an activity different from what we are used to, but very interesting and necessary to know how to distinguish edible mushrooms from those that are not."

"The mycological route was great, Jorge explained everything very well and gave us many tricks to differentiate the different types of edible mushrooms. We had no idea before going and we left with enough basic knowledge to take something on our own. I would definitely repeat as it is a pleasure to share the route with an expert who is passionate about his work."

Tips if you are going to do Mushroom Picking in Spain

If the world of mushrooms get your attention, a mycology session can help you to acquire the pieces of knowledge you need to discover the main peculiarities if this specie. Explore the woodlands to search different fungus and learn to find and pick them. An expert mycologist will accompany you to answer any doubt you could have!

1. Distinguish between the edible mushrooms

Of course, the number 1 objective in this activity is to learn which type of mushrooms are suitable for eating, and there are lot of species are very similar and you stay attentive to the small details to know is it is eatable, it is not suitable for consumption, or worse, it is a poisonous species, such as the well-known amanita phalloides. That is why this activity must always be carried out together with a professional and never consume a mushroom if you are not 100% sure of the species to which it belongs.

2. Try new recipes

Whether if you are a fan of cooking or adore to use the microwave, mycology can give you that push to go and try to prepare new and succulent dishes. You will discover delicious plates that can be prepared with mushrooms, Niscalos or boletus, to say some examples of edible mushrooms, even though there is a wide variety of them. Your stomach will love it!

3. Collaborate on the repopulation of these species

Maybe you don’t know, but when you cut a mushroom with a knife and put it inside a basket, begins to release spores, which are distributed through the forest as you walk. This causes new fungi to emerge in different places, and other people and animals can catch them and continue with this chain.

4. Pass a good day in the woodlands

Mycology is the perfect excuse to meet new places among nature and try a new way of hiking. Also, you will be able to carry it out with all your family members, it does not involve any difficulty beyond walking in the countryside. Children will have a great time looking for mushrooms!

5. Seize and enjoy an escapade to disconnect

In some places, you can find complete vouchers that not only include included the mycology experience, you can enjoy a great breakfast, lunch or also rural accommodation, so you can pass the whole weekend in this so relaxing ambience. Ig you need it an excuse to get far away from everything, you have in front of you.

Would you like to prepare your mycology session?

To be able to enjoy mycology to find a wooded zone is enough, with the conditions of adequate humidity. Is an activity that can be enjoyed at first hour in the morning. You can find different offers in the zone of Salamanca, Madrid, Lérida, Tarragona, Zamora or Cádiz, among other places.

The collection of mushrooms is carried out with the arrival of autumn, since it is when we have the ideal level of temperature and precipitation so that the fungi reproduce and we can find them easily. You must wear shoes that allow you to walk through the bush comfortably and take a coat with rain jacket or umbrella if needed.
