If you want to see cave paintings you have to come to the Vilella Caves. On this hiking route you will be able to see all the traces of our prehistoric ancestors located about 7 kilometers from the town of Tivisa.
Specifically, they are located at the foot of the Tivissa ravine, above the Vilella fountain, and there are 3 caves:
- Cingle Cave: contains a representation of a hunter or archer who is preparing to shoot the bow. It was discovered, along with the paintings in the Ramat cave, in 1921 by J. Colominas.
- Ramat Cave: It has drawings of 9 animals, which resemble Hispanic Pyrenean goats.
- Cueva del Pi: has figures that are difficult to classify. It contains 5 figures with linear strokes that seem to represent the human form, symbolizing action or movement.
To visit them, we will have to spend between 3 and 4 hours, taking a 12-kilometer circular route in which we will also pass by the Vilella fountain and the Sant Blai hermitage, the Morral de Penarroja and the ullal of the Moro Coast. On our way back to the town we will pass through the Fogassos ravine and the Monegret neck, with impressive views of the surroundings.
You should wear comfortable and appropriate clothing and footwear depending on the time of year, as well as water and food to regain strength during the stops we make. You will be accompanied by a specialized guide, who will also explain the most interesting details about the fauna and flora that inhabit this ecosystem.
