You sleep inside three 19th century barrels. It's the night for two adults in the B&B Pervinca in Rocca Grimalda, with breakfast included the next morning, and among the four ways of sleeping that we offer in Alto Monferrato it is the most intimate, reserved for adult guests.
They are original barrels made of chestnut and oak wood, created by the hands of master coopers from an area that thrives on vineyards and cellars. Instead of letting them get lost, we combined them into a mini-apartment with a small living room, a bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with a shower. In front there is a wooden veranda where you can sit in the evening. The spaces are narrow as expected inside a barrel, but nothing is missing: running water, electricity and heating. Sheets and towels are included and on request we will also leave water in your room.
For the whole night you will also have a standard room reserved within walking distance, which is mainly used for two things. It has a larger bathroom and a table where you can dine, because dinner is not included and it is better to arrive with something bought along the way. As for wine, you are in the Dolcetto di Ovada area, and the Gavi area begins a few kilometers away.
The barrel can be booked all year round. In winter it is heated by a convector and on the bed you will find a thermal blanket, so even in the snow you can sleep warm.
In the morning breakfast awaits you in the dedicated room. It is basically sweet with yogurt, fruit juice, cereals and cakes. If you ask in advance we will prepare it savory with cured meats, cheese, toast and eggs, and in case of allergies or intolerances just inform us in advance to find an alternative.
After breakfast you can go up to the Gavi Fort, which dominates the medieval center of Val Lemme from above, or stroll through the narrow streets of Ovada among the buildings with painted facades. The barrel is not wheelchair accessible and we do not accept dogs, while on-site parking is free.
