Welcome to Norwich Paddleboard Hire, a watersports company that has grown from a cottage industry to become Norfolk’s premier SUP hire service in a matter of years.
That’s right, we started out by letting our friends use our own paddleboards while we were at work, accidentally discovering a huge desire in Norwich and the surrounding area for SUP experiences. As popularity grew and we invested in new boards and equipment, it was clear we couldn’t continue to operate out of our house!
That’s when we found a place for Norwich Paddleboard Hire to call home. There could be no better place than the beer garden of a riverside pub in Norwich! We’ve built our hire venue on the banks of the River Wensum, tempting people in the garden of the Gibraltar Gardens and, in return, sending our customers for a post-SUP drink - with a discount - to the pub. That’s not our only colab, Norwich VR escape rooms venue also offers those who arrive at their venue on the riverbank on our paddleboards a 10% discount on games and drinks!
We’ve grown beyond standard paddleboards too. We also have racing paddleboards, a fleet of tandem kayaks and a bunch of ludicrous, six-person megas SUPs - perfect for stag and hen dos. As well as hire, we also offer SUP lessons and more unconventional pastimes like SUP yoga and pilates. When you think about it, there’s no reason not to try us out.

As you can probably guess, at Norwich Paddleboard Hire we love Paddleboarding!
And we want you to love it too. That’s why we’ve made our service simple, spectacular and varied. We are based in the garden of the Gibraltar Gardens pub in Norwich, just off the A1024 bridge. From here, we can launch onto the River Wensum and start exploring!
Although we’re not far from the city centre, paddling upstream for just a few minutes will convince you that you’re in the middle of nowhere as trees bend over the water and birds and insects fly through the air. On top of that, there are no boats on this stretch! Alternatively, you can paddle towards the centre of Norwich to an escape room venue, where our customers enjoy 10% off games and drinks!
If you haven’t been on a paddleboard before, you might want to try one of our SUP lessons where we’ll teach the how of paddleboarding (the why should be obvious by now). What’s more, we put on fitness, pilates and yoga sessions on the river, with each participant floating on their own paddleboard!
Our fleet consists of standard boards, racing paddleboards, tandem paddleboards and even mega paddleboards that are big enough for six people! All of this has ensured that our secret is well and truly out, so book in advance to make sure that we have availability for you!

Kayaking allows us to sit down too! We have a whole fleet of kayaks alongside our stock of SUPs that we offer for hire on the River Wensum. Kayaks are famously good for exploring rivers and waterways, and you can do just that from our base at Gibraltar Gardens. There’s the city centre in one direction and open countryside in the other - which will you choose?
Our kayaks are two-person, or tandem, models where one person sits in front of the other. You might have tried these before, but ours will surprise you because they’re inflatable. That means that they’re as comfortable as an air mattress and easy to manoeuvre, because they weigh very little.
Other benefits of hiring kayaks from us are 10% discounts at both the Gibraltar Gardens pub and the Norfolk VR escape room venue in the centre, a boat-free part of the river and clean riverbanks - because we often go litter picking! And you can rent our equipment for a full day, giving you plenty of time to enjoy all the whole package at your leisure.
