Cares Route by off-road vehicle in Picos de Europa

We now have everything ready to accelerate to the maximum on one of our most special 4x4 excursions, and it is not every day that we travel through the part of the Picos de Europa that it crosses. the Cares route.

We are not proposing any route. Just the spectacular nature of this environment belonging to the Cares River, a tributary of the Deva, will seem like the perfect description of a novel. But if, in addition to that, you are going to get to know it in a way as exciting as riding a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle, the experience becomes an adventure that lasts almost a day.

It is an excursion designed for almost everyone since its level of difficulty is medium-low, however the dose of adrenaline and scenic beauty You will be speechless. Furthermore, it is the ideal option for all those people who do not feel like walking and prefer to see the entire environment in a car adapted to these terrains.

We will pick you up at Cangas de Onís, to depart towards the Cares route between 09:30-10:00 in the morning during the summer. Starting in October, and throughout the fall, winter and part of spring, we will advance the departure time to take advantage of the hours of sunshine. The tour will cross the Desfiladero de los Beyos, parallel to the bed of the Sella River.

From there, we will reach the Valle de Sajambre, and, right after, we will go to the Puerto Pontón, considered the second largest beech forest in all of Europe, and we will even make a stop at the source where the Sella River originates. We will also stop at two viewpoints, the Mirador de Panderruedas and the Chorco de los lobos, which was an old trap from the 17th century for these animals.

After these initial adventures, we will head towards Cain, where at around 2:00 we will have enough time to eat, each of us way you have decided. After the banquet, we will climb the Valdeón Valley, in the heart of this Natural Reserve. To do this, we will have to leave behind the Pandetrave Port, an enclave that we will visit, visiting other points of interest as we go.

In this way, we will take the trails that take us to Fuente Dé to ascend to Áliva, a beautiful valley of glacial origin, and, finally, go down to the town of Sotres. The journey ends by going toPoncebos, and from there, we begin the return towards Cangas de Onís, which translates into an activity that lasts until the whole day.

From the 4x4 our guide and adventure driver will give you an interpretation of everything you see in the incredible Picos de Europa Natural Park. You could never have imagined that a car would pass through these nooks and crannies! Some of them are very difficult to access but only a similar car and such a well-prepared team will be able to access them.

Don't forget to come with warm clothing and above all, with footwear suitable for walking in the mountains, because rest assured that for the most exciting stops, at some of the viewpoints and most impressive peaks of all, you're going to need it. Likewise, we recommend bringing protective cream, sunglasses and water.
