Cares 4x4 Route + Hiking in Caín-Poncebos

You have always wanted to do the Ruta del Cares because someone has told you that, without a doubt, it is one of the most impressive routes that can be done throughout the national territory. But, on the other hand, you, who are used to going on days of hiking, want to experience it in another way if possible.

And if possible, with a combination that allows you to stretch your legs a little at the beginning or at the end of the journey. And that is what we are going to offer you at this price, that we start aboard a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle, ideal for getting around this area, and we end the day with a pleasant hiking ride from Caín to Poncebos, beginning of the Cares Route and the Camino de Bulmes.
We assure you that this travel is one of the most spectacular of those offered in the area of the Picos de Europa. We leave between 09:30 or 09:45 in the morning, in the summer, from Cangas de Onís. Once the month of October arrives, and from there until part of spring, departure times are brought forward coinciding with the reduction in sunshine hours.

Once mounted on the jeep, our driver guide, with extensive accreditation, follows the road along the N-625, popularly known as the strong>Desfiladero de los Beyos, towards the province of León. This gorge is considered one of the longest and most impressive in the northern part of the country. Here, we will visit the salmon farm, a space where salmon fry are raised to be released.

We will follow the channel drawn by the Sella River but in the opposite direction, in this way we will get to know the ancient pass that linked Asturias with the plateau. Once we have surpassed the territorial limits of León, we will enter the Sajambre Valley, where the beautiful town of Soto de Sajambre is located, noted for its high ethnographic value, to which we we will get closer.

Here, we will go up a path to obtain unparalleled views thanks to a viewpoint located at more than 1,300 meters altitude. It will be the opportunity, after immortalizing the moment, to make the return journey until we arrive at Oseia de Sajambre, a place where we will stop briefly. After the break, we will get back in the car to continue the activity.

We will cross another mountain pass crowned by a magnificent viewpoint, we will witness the birth of the Sella River andWe will contemplate in amazement the mountain ports of "Pontón" and "Panderruedas", two of the best places from which to observe the highest peaks of the Picos de Europa .

Right after, we will head to the Posada de Valdeón y Caín, with a small stop along the way to appreciate the "Chorco de los lobos", an ancient trap for wolves dating back to the 17th century. At lunch time, already in Cain, we will leave you time for each one to eat freely and, then, you will have enough time to cover the route on foot.

At around 7:00-7:15 pm, we will pick you up by SUV again in the town of Poncebos, where we will see the origins of this famous route. From there, we will go to Arenas de Cabrales, gateway to the Picos de Europa, and, finally, go down in the direction of Cangas de Onís, starting and ending point of the route.

We remind you that for the activity to take place a group of at least 6 people is required, except in the months of July and August when the number is increased. Likewise, we advise you to wear sports shoes, such as trekking or mountain boots, warm clothing, raincoat just in case, protective cream, sunglasses and water.
