Snow is beginning to dust the peaks of our mountains, and you’re already planning your next ski trip. You might rely on recommendations from friends, acquaintances, or others’ experiences—or perhaps you’ll return to your usual spot if you’re a regular each winter. But if that’s not the case, we’re here to help you make the right choice.

 Ski Resorts

In Spain, we have countless options across the country—more famous resorts, livelier ones, family-friendly ones... So, we’re going to tell you about the 5 best ski resorts, renowned for their facilities, comfort, or the quality of their snow

The Best Ski Resorts for the Winter Season

1. Baqueira Beret - Lleida

Nestled in the Valle de Arán in Catalonia, this is arguably the most famous resort in the country and one of the most exclusive. It’s the largest ski resort in Spain, with 157 kilometres of skiable terrain and 103 slopes. It’s the only resort located on the northern side of the Pyrenees.

It’s not exactly a budget-friendly destination, but if skiing or snowboarding is a passion, investing in a trip here is worth every penny. One downside is the crowds during peak season, especially at Christmas and Easter—you might face longer-than-usual lift queues.

2. Formigal - Huesca

Also in the Pyrenees, but this time in Huesca’s stretch of the range, this resort is another perfect spot for families and groups of friends. Located in Sallent de Gállego, it boasts 137 kilometres of skiable terrain and 146 slopes.

The snow quality, well-groomed slopes, and stunning scenery make this resort a must-visit this season. Plus, if you’re young, the après-ski parties are guaranteed. You can also hop over to the nearby Panticosa resort.

3. Cerler - Huesca

Small but mighty! This ski resort is perfect for enjoying winter sports with the family. As the highest resort in the Aragonese Pyrenees, it offers ideal conditions, thanks to its excellent snow quality.

With 67 slopes and 104 kilometres of skiable terrain, it has a vertical drop of over 1,000 metres. Highlights include the Ampriu and Cota 2000 areas, where you’ll find the iconic descent to the village of Cerler, winding through breathtaking forests.

Its highest peak, Gallinero, stands at an impressive 2,700 metres. Though compact, this resort is highly recommended, with plenty of deals and options available.

4. Sierra Nevada - Granada

Leaving the Pyrenees behind, we head to southern Spain, where Granada’s mountains—specifically in Sierra Nevada National Park—welcome the boldest skiers. It’s Spain’s highest-altitude resort, with 131 slopes and 110 kilometres of skiable terrain.

Just 30 kilometres from Granada’s historic city centre, you can easily combine skiing with sightseeing, thanks to frequent public transport links. And the sea is nearby, too!

5. Grandvalira - Andorra

Though not technically in Spain, this resort in the Principality of Andorra is the largest in southern Europe. Given its proximity to the peninsula, we’ve included it in our list.

 Grandvalira - El Tarter Sector

Its features are staggering: around 210 kilometres of skiable terrain spread across 6 interconnected sectors (Canillo, Encamp, Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, and El Tarter), so skiers can explore the entire area without removing their skis.

The resort also offers endless non-ski activities, like mushing or snowshoeing
