For canyon descents, the best time is undoubtedly spring and the first rains. Summer and autumn, depending on the year, can also be good options. In Huesca, conditions generally remain suitable almost year-round, except winter, when we recommend switching to snow-based activities.
It’s crucial to follow all safety measures and research beforehand. Remember, this is a natural environment, and any activity carries risks. Check the technical difficulty, weather, current canyon conditions, and most importantly, your canyoning level. This ensures a far more enjoyable experience.
THE 5 BEST CANYONS IN THE ARAGONESE PYRENEES

There’s a reason this is the most famous and frequented canyon in Huesca, specifically in Panzano. Located in the heart of the Sierra de Guara, it features jumps, abseils, siphons, and more—ideal for beginners. No prior experience is needed, and the descent takes roughly half a day.
2. Fago

La Foz de Fago is another iconic canyon in Huesca. Situated in the Jacetania region, it’s very close to the village it’s named after. At 3 km long, it’s a must for canyoning enthusiasts. More challenging than Formiga, the Río Majones offers stunning jumps, siphons, and abseils. Highly recommended!
3. Mirabal

One of the most fun and water-filled canyons in the area. The final stretch of the Río Yaga makes this descent easy, perfect for families and children. No abseiling—just jumps and natural pools for endless enjoyment.
Note its narrow sections (as tight as 1 metre wide) and the need to swim, so it’s not advised for non-swimmers.
4. Garganta de las Gloces

Many consider this the most beautiful canyon in the Pyrenees—and all of Spain. Features a 13-metre abseil and, though short, delivers an unforgettable experience (even for kids). Approximately 1,000 metres long, with a 2.5-hour duration. The interplay of light inside is breathtaking.
5. Siresa

Lastly, the so-called Barranco del Hospital is a top choice (if not the top) for beginners. Low difficulty and comfortable throughout. Numerous waterfalls and small jumps make it a Grade II canyon, with a 2-3-hour descent. Brilliant!
As mentioned, Huesca has over 500 canyons—picking just 5 is no easy feat. We hope you enjoy this selection.
