Today, we’re heading to the Pyrenean mountain range, specifically to the province of Huesca, where its mountains bear witness to the absolute peace and tranquillity conveyed by its diverse valleys. Let’s explore the best hiking routes in the area—trails whose scenic beauty makes them well worth a visit. Let’s begin!
1. Pasarelas del Vero (Vero Walkways)
Ever heard of this route? Probably not, yet it’s one of the most spectacular—dare we say—in the entire country.
This is a circular route of roughly 4-5 km in length, with an estimated duration of two hours. It’s located in the town of Alquézar, within the Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park, where the stunning landscape along the Vero River guarantees a day immersed in pure nature.

This is one of the most frequented routes by hiking enthusiasts in Huesca, not just for its spectacular scenery but also because of Alquézar itself—often ranked among Spain’s most beautiful villages, blending historical heritage and natural beauty. Absolutely stunning! The trail starts practically from the heart of the village and is well-signposted throughout. Renting a helmet is recommended to avoid potential rockfall hazards.
2. Ruta de los Llanos y Cascada de Lalarri (Llanos Trail and Lalarri Waterfall)
In the northern part of Sobrarbe, right in the Pineta Valley, we find another of the many spectacular routes in the Aragonese Pyrenees. This is also a circular route, where you’ll discover the waterfall of the Cinca River. This trail is great in both summer and winter (though snowshoes are a must in the colder months).

The route spans about 6 km, with an estimated completion time of nearly two hours. The path begins behind the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Pineta, close to the Monteperdido lodge. It’s a spectacular trail packed with waterfalls, trees, and vast open spaces—highly recommended for families. A solid 10/10!
3. Badinas de Pedruel (Pedruel Pools)
This time, it’s an out-and-back route perfect for summer. We’re in Bierge, deep in the Sierra de Guara and the Valle de Rodellar. It’s an easy trail of no more than 7 km round trip, with an approximate duration of two hours.

The final goal? A refreshing dip in the natural pools after crossing Pedruel’s medieval bridge—one of the most beautiful spots on the route.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even swim between the different pools (always with caution). Also highly recommended for kids.
4. Gorgas de San Julián (San Julián Gorges)
Still within the Sierra de Guara and very close to Huesca city, this almost magical route winds through strikingly beautiful rock formations. A 5 km out-and-back trail taking roughly 2 hours to complete.

This route is ideal year-round. The Gorgas de San Julián are spectacular narrow cavities carved by nature’s whimsy, with awe-inspiring walls. Multiple chambers await, each more impressive than the last. Don’t miss the Hermitage of San Julián. Highly recommended!
5. Los Ibones de Villamuerta (Villamuerta Mountain Lakes)
Finally, we reach the Benasque Valley in the Ribagorza region for a superbly spectacular route. A short out-and-back trail of just 3 km (about an hour). The path starts at La Besurta, and you’ll quickly reach the lower Villamuerta lake.

The trail continues up to 2,000m, where the upper lake offers absolutely stunning views of the Aneto and Maladetas peaks. Simply brilliant!
If you’re keen to enjoy a walk and a great hike in the Pyrenees of Huesca while discovering the area’s most spectacular landscapes and hidden gems, keep these routes in mind—we’re sure you’ll love them, and so will your family. A LOT!
