First, we’ll need an early start to avoid crowds, heading to the Puerto de Navacerrada, where the route begins. Take the A6 (La Coruña motorway) and exit at junction 39 onto the M-601, which climbs to the mountain pass. Check the weather forecast beforehand—chains may be required.

At the top, park in one of the car parks (arrive early—they fill up quickly!), then walk to the Cogorros residence to gear up. From here, we’ll snowshoe to the Alto del Telégrafo for a photo by the Virgin statue. This ascent is relatively easy, following the Camino Schmidt through the Valsaín forest.

If the trees are heavy with snow, the scenery becomes magical. We’ll cross the cross-country ski trail (caution advised) before reaching Peña Hueca and Alto del Telégrafo. The panoramic views are spectacular: on one side, the Segovian lands of La Granja and Valsaín; on the other, La Maliciosa and Alto de Guarramillas.

Next, we’ll traverse to the Siete Picos meadow, climbing the seventh peak (400m elevation gain). The ridge walk is manageable, allowing access to the remaining peaks. After a break for food, we’ll descend via the north slope on the wide, well-maintained Camino Schmidt back to Cogorros, completing this fantastic family-friendly adventure.

We’ll finish with a winter panorama of the Seven Peaks—breathtaking! Now that you know one of the best routes in the Sierra de Guadarrama, what are you waiting for? It’s a brilliant day out for both adults and kids.
