Who said water skiing in Madrid isn’t a thing? Anyone who thinks water sports are only for coastal areas is sorely mistaken—proof of this is that several companies in the sector operate in the capital, such as the Madrid Water Ski Club, which is hosting the Madrid Pro Jump on September 3rd.

The world’s best jumpers will compete in this event as part of the World Ski Fly Tour. For the first time, these athletes will come to our country, making it a spectacular show—one of the few opportunities you shouldn’t pass up. Can you imagine watching skiers fly off the ramp at 120 km/h, reaching heights of up to 8 metres?

Madrid Pro Jump 2011

Why is this event so significant? Simply because we’ll get to see the world’s top jumpers in action, including:

  • Freddy Krueger: World Champion and World Record Holder (American)
  • Zack Worden: Under-21 World Champion (American)
  • Scott Ellis: Winner of the US Masters and US Open (American)
  • Brian Kinney (American)
  • Mark Lane (American)
  • Vladimir Ryanzin: Russian Champion (Russian)
  • Bojan Shipner: German Champion (German)
  • Damien Sharman: European Champion (English)
  • Tom Asher (English)
  • Felipe and Rodrigo Miranda (Chilean)
These are true water skiing stars, capable of incredible acrobatics on two skis, having competed in places like Great Britain, Australia, and the US—and now they’ll battle it out in Madrid, specifically in the municipality of Navalagamella, near Valdemorillo. Who will win? The athlete who achieves the longest combined distance across the competition’s three jumps.

 Guillermo Moreno de Carlos

Are there any Spanish competitors? Among the world’s best, we have two Spaniards who excel in this thrilling sport: Guillermo and Álvaro Moreno de Carlos. Unfortunately, Álvaro cannot compete due to a knee injury sustained in his last event in Poland. Both brothers have impeccable track records, with Guillermo—who will compete in the Madrid Pro Jump—currently ranked 8th in the world and holding the Spanish record of 67.1 metres.

How can you attend this spectacle? Admission is free—just show up on Saturday, September 3rd, from 12:00 PM in Valdemorillo. There will be surprises throughout the day, plus an open bar for drinks and food. For more details, don’t hesitate to contact the Madrid Water Ski Club for any additional information. Who knows? You might even feel inspired to sign up for a water skiing course yourself!
