Karts, like any other sport, have a set of rules that must be followed, as otherwise problems could arise and drivers would face the consequences.
Not only must behaviour guidelines be observed, but we must also ensure that all equipment used is approved and in perfect condition.
The Karting Sporting Regulations contain mandatory guidelines for all karting circuits and competitions. Below we highlight the most important ones; the remainder can be consulted on the RFEDA (Royal Spanish Motorsport Federation) website.
The regulations can be summarised in the following aspects: general safety, circuit, and sportsmanlike driving.
General Safety
This includes not carrying tools or spare parts or making repairs on track. If involved in an accident, you must not leave the scene without prior authorisation, and must undergo medical examination if required, etc.
Never drive a kart outside the designated track area unless it's a practice session; the organiser must have all safety measures up to date; drivers must wear all safety equipment required by the Technical Regulations.
Circuit
Only registered participants and authorised personnel may access the track. The pit lane must be approached with maximum caution, and mechanical assistance is only permitted in this area. Any kart that stops on track must be immediately removed; rejoining the track must be done under the driver's own power without external assistance and without impeding other drivers...
Sportsmanlike Driving
Karts may use the full width of the track, provided they don't impede other vehicles; penalties apply for those making unnecessary directional changes to prevent being overtaken, among other infractions.
There you have the basics. The regulations might seem very strict or overwhelming at first, but once you start practising, everything will run smoothly - quite literally!
