Extreme skiing and paragliding come together in this symbiosis of skiing, flight, speed and pure adrenaline. "Speedriding" is a sport that still isn't very popular in Spain but is gradually gaining more followers, with some schools even being established to teach it.

It stands out for being visually spectacular, and all you need to practise it are skis, a canopy similar to a paraglider with harness and backpack, and of course a helmet. Oh! And some courage too. We can also descend through rugged areas that would be inaccessible when just skiing.

Its origin? France

This sport was born in our neighbouring country, France, in the late 70s when mountaineers would launch themselves in paragliders while wearing skis. It quickly became so popular in the country that it reached the US gaining great fame and even some competitions being organised.
The first official competition of this sport was in 2007 at "Speed Flying Pro Les Arcs"

Where to practise it in Spain?

If you want to try this sport in our country, schools in Vallnord (Andorra) and Cerler offer lessons in this sporting discipline for the most daring. Don't worry as different skill levels are available to learn the techniques, but having a good skiing level is an essential requirement.

 Descent between the rocks

You need to be able to descend on any type of snow and at least red run level. If you're an expert in paragliding but don't have a good skiing level, you'll need to improve the latter first.

The pioneer is Arcalís in Vallnord where the instructors running the school are two professionals with over 10 years of experience who also compete in this discipline.

The Alps

In the Alps it's a social phenomenon with over 15 recognised schools already established across France, Switzerland and Germany. Being such a visual sport, it has become a mass phenomenon in the neighbouring mountain range.

Fancy giving it a go?
