Bungee jumping in Monserrat

Don't overthink it. If you've been toying with the idea of trying puenting... just do it! The best adventures aren't overthought. But of course, you'll need to choose the right location and style first - did you know there are different types of puenting?

The main difference lies in the type of rope used for different puenting jumps, which can be static (the most common) or elastic, delivering the biggest adrenaline rushes. Fortunately for thrill-seekers, Spain offers spectacular puenting locations nearly everywhere, with expert operators. Discover the best puenting deals across the country here

Types of Puenting

Pendular Puenting

 Bungee jumping

This is the most common puenting style, especially for first-timers. Don't assume this classic version delivers less adrenaline - quite the opposite! Your first puenting jump will be an unforgettable experience.

The key technical difference is the rope system. You're attached with a static rope, fixed to the bridge at one end and to your body (usually your feet) at the other. When you leap, your movement becomes pendular (hence the name), creating centrifugal force like a giant swing. The bridge's width (more than its height) determines how long you'll keep moving during the fall.

You can jump forwards or challenge yourself further by jumping backwards! If leaping into the void is brave, doing it blind is indescribable.

Bungee Jumping

 Suspended from the bridge

Also known as goming, this puenting variation might be the most extreme version. The jump uses elastic cords - actually multiple rubber bands that can stretch up to 400% of their original length. Your body keeps bouncing, experiencing vertical gravitational pull until the cords reach maximum elongation (depending on your weight), gradually slowing until you're suspended beneath the crane or platform:

But as with everything, bungee jumping has its "next level" options with three subcategories to push your limits:
  • Trampoline. The elastic cords are attached to a trampoline, propelling you much higher during the jump.
  • Catapult. Possibly the most extreme bungee jump. You're launched via "catapult" from a crane, covering incredible distance while secured by full-body harnesses.
  • Ramp. You launch into the void using skis, a bicycle or sled from a ramp.

Now you know all the existing puenting variations, which will you choose? We recommend trying them all - what better way to see the world than leaping from its highest bridges and structures?
