The Río Verde Canyon, also known as Las Chorreras Canyon, is located in the municipality of Otívar, in Granada. It’s one of the most significant canyons in Andalusia. This canyon lies within the Tejeda, Almijara, and Alhama Natural Park, which borders the provinces of Málaga and Granada.

This canyon is known for its green, crystal-clear waters and sunlit riverbed. It stretches 20 kilometres in length and flows into the Mediterranean through the municipalities of Lentegí, Jete, and Almuñécar.
You’ll feel like you’re in a natural water park thanks to its pools, waterfalls, and fun natural slides.

The difficulty level is low, and the descent can be done year-round due to its favourable water conditions and tropical microclimate. However, the best months are between March and October, when temperatures are ideal and the water flow is perfect. The descent takes 4-5 hours, or 6-7 hours for the full route.

Sections of the canyon
Depending on your experience, there are two descent options: the half-canyon route, which is the easiest and most popular; and the full descent, which is more suited to experienced canyoners.
During the descent, you’ll encounter jumps, narrow gorges, waterfalls, and turquoise pools.

The first section is shorter but very vertical. You’ll tackle several rappels, slides, and jumps of varying heights. The rappels are straightforward, never exceeding 12 metres, and are easily jumpable.

The natural slides are one of the biggest attractions for visitors. They’re perfect for families or group outings, guaranteeing a spectacular day.
The first section of the canyon is of moderate difficulty and is ideal for those who want to experience the full canyon and have some prior canyoning experience. This section starts at the confluence with Madroñales Canyon, near the Cueva de Funes waterfall. As a result, it’s less crowded.

The easiest and most popular section is known as "Los Caños Cruzados". This is the route most people take, as it’s not too challenging—the jumps are low, and there are few rappels. It’s perfect for families, and kids will have an amazing time.
