Your surfing equipment, like in all sports, requires care to ensure safe and successful sessions in the waves. A surfboard is robust and can withstand many surfing sessions, but if you don’t give it the care it needs, no matter how high-quality it is, its "lifespan" will be shortened.
UV rays, saltwater, low-quality materials in the board’s construction... All these factors influence whether your gear deteriorates sooner or later.
That said, if you’re worried about dings caused by wipeouts or minor pressure dents in specific areas, there’s no need to rush your board in for repairs. You’ll still be able to surf without issues for a long time, even with dings on your board.
It’s a different story if there’s a hole, for example. In that case, depending on how damaged the surfboard’s materials are, it might not even be worth taking it to a shaper, as the repair could cost more than buying a new board. They’d need to sand it, apply filler, and refinish it to restore its appearance – so think carefully about whether your board is really in that bad a state.
Repairing a surfboard requires skill and experience, so DIY repairs are rarely a good idea. Surf schools and clubs can recommend excellent local shapers. We’ve made it easy for you – to ask some of the best surfers in our country, just click here to see all the surf schools across Spain.
