Here's one of my active tourism experiences, as last weekend we were doing activities with Asdon Adventure. Without a doubt, it was quite an experience that I'd recommend to everyone, as besides food and accommodation they offer adventure sports for all types of people.
We specifically tried three activities, each better than the last, thanks to which we got to explore Poveda de la Sierra both by night and day. Spectacular views surrounded by pure nature, where trees and mountains dominate the landscape.
When we arrived at the hostel (very cosy, by the way) we changed into comfortable clothes to practice one of the activities, specifically orienteering. For the game we split into small groups, as the fun lies in competing against each other to see which team would win. Miguel, the instructor, explained how to use the equipment we'd need, like the compass. Then he handed out the challenges.

Ten small challenges to overcome to be the first to reach the goal. We had to go through the small village again and again, as each time we solved a clue we had to report back to the instructor. Through the orienteering activity we got to know the small town and its inhabitants, as we needed their help several times. And of course - my team won! It wasn't easy though, as speed is crucial.
After the activity we had a delicious barbecue prepared by Asdon Adventure, accompanied by some nicely chilled sangria which was well deserved after our efforts. Some were surprised when we learned that after dinner we had a nighttime quad bike route waiting for us (many of us didn't know what the weekend had in store). Before we knew it, we were all suited up with helmets on and mounted on our vehicles.
After a brief lesson explaining how the quad bike worked: lights, gears, throttle, brake, etc., we set off into the mountains with perfect temperatures. At first I didn't feel very confident: I'd never driven one of these vehicles before and thought I wouldn't manage, but it was completely different - very easy and you quickly get the hang of it. The best part was the stars surrounding the Milky Way in the sky... I'd never seen so many! On the way back we were much more confident driving the quads, so we had even more fun.

The next day we had a fantastic day ahead aboard some kayaks, going down the Tagus River and enjoying unique scenery. We had to put on wetsuits, as river water is quite cold, plus life jackets in case of falls and helmets to avoid bumps from branches or rocks.
The instructor gathered us all before starting to explain how to use the equipment and different paddling movements: forward, brake, turning right and left... It's very important to follow safety rules because we don't want unnecessary risks. Although the chances of a serious accident are very remote, we must remember we're in a water environment and any mistake could give us a scare.
Once we set off, the instructor Marta gave us some tips and we started heading downstream, through rapids, amazing landscapes and great vibes. It's true our kayak capsized three times, but it's easy to get back in and keep paddling - plus it adds to the excitement, right?

After a whole morning aboard these vessels, nothing better than regaining strength with a sandwich and soft drink before finishing the route and packing up the gear. You end up a bit tired, sure, but truly... it's worth it!
I'd recommend any of these activities with Asdon Adventure, plus others like mountain biking, climbing, canyoning... Book now!
