Best Rafting Locations in Spain
1. Galicia
We head to Galicia to explore the longest river in the autonomous community, the Miño River. While there are several suitable rivers like the Ulla, Sil, or Tambre, the famous Miño River is the best spot for rafting.

There are several suitable sections, though the most recommended runs from Frieira to Barcela. Surrounded by abundant nature including eucalyptus and willow trees, this descent is ideal from March to October. Here are the best options for rafting in the area.
2. Aragón
In the Pyrenees of Huesca, the rivers Gállego, Ara, and Ésera take centre stage. Classics for enthusiasts and probably the highest-rated by rafting fans. Their white waters and incredible views make them perfect for both beginners and more "seasoned" rafters.

The Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park or the Benasque Valley will provide stunning backdrops. Ideal for families with children, groups of friends, or even corporate teams where teamwork will be crucial to overcoming obstacles. The best season runs from March to November.
Here are all the local operators in the area.
3. Cantabria
In Cantabria, the main attraction for this sport is the Upper Ebro. The spectacular landscapes, particularly in sections like the Alto Ebro Canyon, will leave you speechless.

The best season starts in June when the weather improves and water levels rise, though rafting is perfectly possible from March.
These are all the local operators in the area.
4. Catalonia
In the northeast, we arrive in Lleida, specifically at the 145-kilometre Noguera Pallaresa River, one of Spain's most famous rafting destinations. Different sections run from Llavorsí to the Collegats Gorge, with the option of completing the full descent in one day.

Rafting is possible from late February through October, with water levels regulated by a dam. Oh! And this is where rafting began in our country.

5. Andalusia
In southern Spain, we find three major rivers: The Guadalfeo, Genil, and the upper section of the Guadalquivir, each with distinct characteristics. The first two present the most challenging rapids, though they include family-friendly sections too. Both originate in Sierra Nevada, offering spectacular views.

The Guadalfeo descent is Andalusia's most extreme, featuring Grade III-IV rapids. Hold on tight! Best attempted in winter and spring. In contrast, the Guadalquivir offers gentler routes (beginner level).
For more information, we recommend checking these Andalusia-based operators.
6. Madrid Region - Valencia Region
For enthusiasts in central Spain or near Valencia, the Cabriel River, flowing between Albacete and Cuenca, offers Grade II-III rapids, making it a highly recommended option.

Another suitable river is the Mijares River in Castellón province. Though its navigable section is shorter (just 2km), it packs plenty of rapids.
The ideal season (as with other destinations) runs from March to October, though this varies depending on water levels. Find all operators near Madrid here.
7. Northern Extremadura - Ávila - Salamanca
Less known but equally thrilling are the rapids of the Tormes River in the Sierra de Gredos Natural Park (Ávila side). Different sections start from El Barco de Ávila and Aliseda de Tormes.

Just an hour from Ávila or Salamanca (and two from Madrid), it's perfect from spring through autumn. Explore local operators for more information.
Now that you know Spain's best rafting spots, which will you choose? Which is most convenient for you?
