Company Overview
At Merón Surf School we work to become a surfer on the Cantabrian beaches around San Vicente de la Barquera. Here we find the right conditions to ride the waves almost every day of the year, in fact on Merón beach we will find a paradise for those of us who are regulars of this sport.
You can contact us to:
- Learn to surf: from the beginning, without knowing anything before coming to see us, you can stay with the school for one day for an initial 120-minute course. If you have more time, you can extend your course for 2 days, 5 days from Monday to Friday, 10 days, 15 or even 20 days to become a specialist.
- Rent equipment for other disciplines: if you couldn't fit your favorite equipment in your suitcase, at the school we have bodyboards and paddle surf boards to rent. Another item you may need will be a full wetsuit. You can also ask us for it and rest assured that it will work for you because we have all sizes so that it fits you like a glove and can fulfill its function in the water.
In addition, we can advise you on accommodation whether you want to spend the night camping to be closer to nature or if you need an apartment.
Summary Paddle Boarding
At the Merón Surf School you can rent equipment for paddle surfing. We recommend that you try this option, which in the absence of waves is very calm and simple, so that you can get to know the Oyambre Natural Park from the sea. You will then know why it has been classified as a surfing reserve throughout the world.
Stand up paddle equipment consists of a paddle and a board. The surfboard will provide greater stability than surfboards because it has a noticeably larger surface area. Therefore, if you are not a surfer and you think that you will not be able to stand on it, it is a matter of trying it. You will be surprised how quickly it is achieved if the water is calm.
As for rowing, it has the role of making us advance on journeys to wherever we want. Choose how long you want to use the sup equipment and you will have different options in the water:
- For 1 or 2 hours: recommended, especially in the first case, if you have little or no idea about this discipline. Stay close to the coast and focus on learning to gain stability on the board and then coordinate the movements with those of the paddle.
- For half a day or the whole day: it is a type of rental that we recommend if you already have experience and want to have enough time to go on a complete excursion, even stopping to eat or bathe at any point of the coastline.
If you need it to go into the sea, you can also rent the complete wetsuit in your size.
Summary Surfing
The recent appearance of Merón Surf on the beaches of San Vicente de la Barquera is nourished by more than two decades of experience accumulated by its instructors. Throughout their career on this same coast they have been able to learn in detail the behavior of the sea and its waves at every moment of the year, which they now apply in the surf courses that we offer you.
We are very close to Merón Beach, which belongs to the Oyambre Natural Park. If you regularly move among the waves you will know that it is an internationally recognized spot for this sport. Therefore, we want you to enjoy it regardless of the date since we are open during all seasons.
Participate in one of the initiation programs and start getting the hang of the board, gaining autonomy:
- We dedicate a total of 2 hours, during which time you will have learned to know the material and what the phases are from when you are in the sand until you try to stand up in the water.
- We will lend you the board and a neoprene from the Billabong brand that fits you well and is adapted to the temperature of the environment, since they are of different thicknesses and you must be comfortable for your training. p>
- You will share class with a maximum of 5 students per teacher so that you can notice their attention towards you and have time to ask them any questions that may arise.
In addition, we have the option of changing beaches to find the one with the best conditions for the course.
