At Kayaking Costa Brava Canoas we offer courses at sea for both initiation and improvement.

The introductory course lasts four hours divided into two sessions during which the following topics are covered:

• Differences and comparison between the different canoes and accessories currently used.
• Nomenclature and usefulness of the main parts.
• Correct rowing movement, optimal positioning of the body and feet.
• Embark and disembark correctly from the beach and from the rocks.
• Turn, brake, correct course, circular stroke and row in reverse.
• Lateral movement of the canoe.
• Basic rescue and self-rescue techniques: boarding after a capsize when alone or accompanied, Eskimo rescue, emptying the water and using the paddle float.
• Backstroke techniques with the rowing, waist compensation, lateral inclination and tilt turn.

It is difficult to define the time necessary to achieve the different techniques in an improvement course. On the one hand, it depends on the degree of perfection you want to reach and on the other hand you have to take into account that during an improvement course what is basically taught is eskimotage (a technique that allows you to get up alone and without leaving the room). canoe after capsizing). The flexibility of the waist and the ability to coordinate its movement with the arms are of great importance. This makes it very easy for some people to acquire the aforementioned technique while for others it is more difficult.

For most, the three-hour course divided into two sessions will be sufficient, which is the normal course that we offer to learn how to skim.

Apart from the techniques and exercises mentioned above, more advanced theoretical and practical techniques can also be taught, at the request of each user, such as: navigation with a compass, interpretation of nautical charts and other documents, surfing with waves, towing and navigation in extreme conditions. .

In Kayaking Costa Brava Canoeing the canoes used are self-bailing, single and two-seater, and despite not being as fast as those used for excursions, they are so stable and safe that they do not require assistance from no monitor. This, together with their unsinkability, makes them appropriate because anyone without any experience can rent them on their own safely.

There is also the possibility of renting classic expedition canoes, but we only offer this service to people with some experience in navigation (for more information about this possibility you should contact us).
