If you're already an expert or have tried this water sport before, you simply need to choose one of the most appealing types:

Kayaking in calm waters

This is ideal for beginners, as it allows you to gain confidence and adapt to the vessel. You'll handle the equipment and gradually experience will come naturally:

  • River kayak. This type of kayak is short and flat-bottomed, with lightweight being one of its best advantages. It's important to note that you need good physical condition to handle it.
  • Slalom kayak. It features safety handles for added peace of mind, as its dimensions are quite large: it must be at least 3.50 metres long.

Whitewater kayaking

Once you've gained experience, navigating whitewater is an indescribable adventure – you have to live it to understand it. In Spain, we have several fast-flowing rivers where you can practise it. What are you waiting for?

This type of kayak is shorter, as we prioritise manoeuvrability over speed. Don't forget your helmet and life jacket, as safety is paramount.

  • Freestyle. Relax and perform all the manoeuvres you know – that's what matters in this discipline. Using an extremely short kayak will allow you to perform aerial tricks by submerging one end of the vessel and using its rebound.
  • Downriver. This is one of the most popular styles, where you'll experience incredible thrills and adrenaline rushes. Exciting, right? Just remember – you'll need to be the first to finish, as the race between you and your friends adds even more excitement.
  • Extreme. The race is crucial, especially knowing that the elevation drop in this discipline is greater. There is risk involved in this type of practice, so it's advisable to be well-trained and take precautions.
  • Slalom. This is an Olympic category where you must complete a course in the shortest time possible without penalties. The challenges involve navigating through gates in a specific order and correct manner.

Beyond those already mentioned, you might find other models that appeal to you more, as everyone is different and there are options for all skill levels. For example, flatwater kayaks are highly recommended for beginners due to their great stability. They also allow for relaxed boating on lakes or calm seas.

Considering this type of active tourism is highly recommended. We guarantee that practising a sport different from what most Spaniards do is far more enjoyable.
