Fellow mountain biker, autumn brings back that desire to discover the best landscapes on two wheels. So if you're thinking of doing a MTB route, be sure to follow these tips to make your activity go as smoothly as possible.

Before heading out on your mountain bike, you need to be properly equipped - but how? With top-quality gear and those essential tools you can't afford to forget.

Don't forget your helmet

10 tips for trouble-free pedalling

  1. Before starting your route, do some stretching. It might seem unimportant, but nothing could be further from the truth. Try gently riding back and forth for a few moments to warm up without overexerting yourself.
  1. Plan your route. It's crucial to know your path and potential obstacles you might encounter along the way. A good tip is to carry a map with you, even if you've done the route before - you never know where you might end up.

Remember to warm up before leaving

  1. Don't forget your rucksack. Pack all the essentials you'll need during your ride: water, food, spare accessories, etc.
  1. Tools. Don't leave them at home - you never know when you'll need to repair part of your bike. Which tools are essential? Allen keys, screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead), spare inner tube, patches and patch solution, etc.
  1. Stay connected. Always carry a charged mobile phone in case of emergencies.
  1. Always ride with company. Have at least one other person with you so you're not alone if needed. In the mountains, you can sometimes encounter unexpected situations.
  1. Don't forget your provisions. Food and water (two litres) are essential - why? Remember you'll be exercising continuously and will need them. Most importantly, calculate your route duration and adjust your food and drink quantities accordingly. Don't forget - dehydration is no joke!

 Always go accompanied

  1. Clothing. The necessary cycling kit (jersey and shorts) plus season-appropriate gear. Obviously winter clothing differs from summer gear, but never forget your waterproof jacket.
  1. Helmet and gloves. These should be your inseparable friends, so invest in the best.
  1. And of course, don't overlook the bike's condition. Any unexpected breakdown could ruin your day. Always keep it in perfect working order so you only need to worry about pedalling.
