THE BEST AREAS FOR HORSE RIDING IN THE COMMUNITY OF MADRID

1. Monte de El Pardo

Monte de El Pardo is one of the best-preserved Mediterranean forests in all of Europe. Quite impressive, isn’t it? This makes it one of the finest spots for a memorable horse ride. Countless trails wind through these hills, dotted with holm oaks, junipers, and ash trees. Though much of Monte de El Pardo is closed to the public, a vast area remains open to explore this unique woodland. It’s famous for the deer rutting season, where the echoing roars can be heard kilometres away as summer ends.

2. Lozoya Valley

Just 45 minutes from the capital, the Lozoya area is another excellent option within the Community. Nestled at the foot of Somosierra, the surroundings of Buitrago de Lozoya are rich with pine and oak forests, perfectly contrasting with the abundant water in the area, from reservoirs to rivers. Absolutely brilliant!

3. El Escorial Area

The San Lorenzo de El Escorial area is another standout location in the Community for horse riding. The town itself is spectacular, but its surroundings—like the towering Monte Abantos, Fresnedillas, Zarzalejo, Valdemorillo, or Navalagamella—hide stunning natural corners and routes where you can soak in the landscapes and history of what were once the lands of Philip II. Highly recommended!

4. Aranjuez Area

Heading south to Aranjuez, the spotlight falls on the Tajo River floodplains and the drylands of La Vega. The sheer beauty of this area, paired with the grandeur of the town, makes it one of Madrid’s most beloved spots. El Cortijo de San Isidro and the Azuda de la Montaña are just some of the highlights on the local riding routes, not to mention the Royal Palace and its Royal Gardens
