Yumping.- How long have you been involved in the mountain world?
Luis Fernández.- 40 years, ever since I found an excuse to give my parents some peace. Before that, I'd just go for walks with them.
Y.- How do you remember your first expedition?
L.F.- Every outing has been a very positive experience. On each one you acquire knowledge and practices that form habits which become automatic.
Y.- Of all the sports that can be practised in the mountains, which is your favourite?
L.F.- Alpine climbing to less frequented summits.
Y.- You've travelled halfway around the world as a mountaineer. Where would you return to without hesitation?
L.F.- Lately I've discovered exploration in Arctic zones, and I find it fascinating.

Y.- What's the most difficult situation you've had to face?
L.F.- The most extreme was climbing the North face of Puro in Riglos in 1978, with the equipment and protection available at that time. The most dangerous were two avalanches that came down on me.
Y.- Is the mountain world compatible with family life?
L.F.- Completely. There's time for everything. Even better if you can involve them and they accompany you.
Y.- How do you spend your free time?
L.F.- Climbing all kinds of mountains.
Y.- We see you practice a great variety of adventure sports... do you prefer them on land, sea or air?
L.F.- In any element, though I do more on land. I find greater variety of landscapes and activities.
Y.- Ice climbing or rock climbing?
L.F.- Whichever is needed to reach the summit. Why not mixed?
Y.- Tell us an anecdote from your long career.
L.F.- Going to Naranjo de Bulnes in 1981 without any equipment or intention, and meeting two fabulous brothers who accompanied me via Cepeda to the summit.

Y.- You've managed to combine your passion for mountains with writing, as you also have a blog where you share your personal experiences. Would you like to go far as a writer?
L.F.- I simply try to recount and share activities that might guide others and that are feasible. The feedback is very rewarding.
Y.- What's your next project?
L.F.- An Arctic exploration. There are so many yet to be done.
Y.- How far would you like to go?
L.F.- To continue doing the activities I do for as long as possible.
Y.- What's your unfinished business?
L.F.- I don't have any unfinished business now. I'm fulfilled by what I'm doing.
