In May 1987, Caballos de San Leonardo (Tourism Activity Promoter) was established to develop its business operations in the field of adventure tourism. Over the years, it has managed several campsites and hospitality complexes in stunning natural settings within the Autonomous Community of Castile and León (Sierra de Gredos, Cañón del Río Lobos, Hoces del Duratón, Sierra de Covarrubias...).

Horse Routes of San Leonardo

In 1997, Proatur launched an Equestrian Centre in Covarrubias (Burgos) – Caballos del Arlanza – and more recently established a new Equestrian Centre in San Leonardo de Yagüe (Soria). Both centres offer a variety of routes through the surrounding natural, historical, and artistic landscapes.

They have a team of professionals specialised in horse riding routes, as it’s essential to know how to teach or guide a group of friends on an excursion, given varying skill levels. If you’ve never ridden before, they’ll provide basic instructions on how to mount a horse. The rest will come naturally.

You won’t need to worry about equipment—just wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. The professional team will handle everything else.

 Proatur discovers different paths

One of their popular routes is the Cañón del Río Lobos weekend tour:

  • Friday. Arrival in San Leonardo de Yagüe.
  • Saturday. San Leonardo de Yagüe – Cañón del Río Lobos – San Leonardo de Yagüe: Ride through a pine forest to reach the Cañón del Río Lobos, a designated Natural Park and Bird Protection Area. Enjoy lunch at Puente de los Siete Ojos before returning to San Leonardo de Yagüe to rest.
  • Sunday. San Leonardo de Yagüe – Carnicosa de la Sierra: Traverse vast Valsaín pine forests to Carnicosa de la Sierra, nestled in the Iberian Range at the foot of the Picos de Urbión. Lunch is served at its Hermitage before continuing to Quintanar de la Sierra.

 Delve into the vegetation

This route includes accommodation and full board (2 nights) in a four-star rural hotel, plus full-day rides on Saturday and Sunday with meals en route. They also offer excursions ranging from two hours to six days, as well as customisable routes. Why? Because every rider is different—some seek a romantic day out with their partner, while others want to celebrate a stag party.

The provinces of Soria and Burgos are perfect for immersing yourself in nature. You’ll discover limestone canyons, lush vegetation, and over 200 wildlife species. You won’t regret it.

Beyond this route, Proatur offers many more options across other provinces. For details, don’t hesitate to contact them.
