At 42 years old, Darío Barrio had become a renowned chef with his own restaurant, Dassa Bassa. He held a stellar reputation in the culinary world as one of Spain's greatest chefs. Yesterday, he passed away while practising BASE jumping in Jaén.

All who knew him agree he had a strong personality and always wore a smile. He dedicated his life to doing what he loved most: living on the edge

At 14, he began his culinary journey, and in 1995, he made his first parachute jump. A single jump was all it took for him to realise adrenaline was in his blood. From then on, he jumped whenever possible, making it his ultimate way to relieve daily stress.

As is often the case with extreme sports athletes, the sense of freedom when practising their favourite sport drives them to push further. Darío Barrio lived as he chose to live—squeezing every drop from life and cherishing countless experiences he’ll surely have treasured. Hang gliding, skydiving, and BASE jumping were just some of the sports the chef loved most.

In an interview with Yumping, he stated: "Adrenaline demands more adrenaline". One of his most spectacular jumps was the Angel Falls leap in Venezuela, shared with members of the Proyecto Alas expedition—undoubtedly one of the world’s premier locations for the sport.

Throughout his career, he travelled to countless destinations—Venezuela, Switzerland, Italy, Norway—experiencing breathtaking sensations reserved for only a few.

Here, we pay tribute to the most extreme chef of our time. May he forever soar, as in his own words: "Jumping makes you feel alive".
