Prague is already a magnificent city, considered by many—myself included—one of the most beautiful in the world when seen from its streets and squares. Now, imagine seeing it from the air while floating in a balloon!
But not just any balloon—a tethered hot air balloon! What makes it special is that you’re not inside a basket or compartment; instead, you’re suspended by a harness! And if you want to make it even more fun, you can go up with a companion! That said, when it’s windy, the activity can be quite thrilling—there’s a big difference between standing on solid ground and being strapped to a balloon, hovering over the city by the river...
To reach the balloon launch site, you’ll take a stroll through the city to Kampa Island in Prague. There, the balloon will lift you 80 metres high for 15 minutes, offering a breathtaking aerial view of the city.
The balloon can carry two adults and one child. It’s the only attraction of its kind in the Czech Republic and the Bohemia region, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
At first glance, it might seem a bit unstable or unsafe, but once you’re up there, all your worries fade as you take in the stunning views of Prague—especially the magnificent Charles Bridge.
If I remember correctly, the price was around €20, quite cheap compared to similar activities in other countries. Plus, it’s a unique way to admire the beautiful Czech capital.
The flight duration depends on whether there are other people waiting. If you’re lucky and alone, they might let you stay up for an hour—or even longer, as happened to me when they kept me up past the hour until I asked to come down.
The staff speak perfect English, so communication won’t be an issue. You’ll use a communicator attached to one of the balloon’s ropes to talk to the operator, ask questions, or request an early descent.
The company is called "Balon centrum Praha," and you’ll spot the balloon from the famous Charles Bridge. If you’re not brave enough for a full balloon ride but still want a similar thrill, don’t hesitate to try this "aerial viewpoint" of Prague!
