So here are some interesting facts about 7 adventure sports that will help you get to know them a bit better and, who knows? Maybe even try them!
1. The origin of paintball
It turns out that it dates back to the 1980s when a group of American farmers used paintballs with a type of marker gun to tag their cattle.

Apparently, one day this group had an argument and, since they couldn't agree, they decided to take these markers to the field, hung some flags in the woods, and whoever returned to base with the flags without being marked would win.
You've probably seen that in many films, those about to jump into the void let out this "battle cry" just before carrying out the activity. Well, its origin came as a test of bravery by some American army paratroopers who watched a western film with that title.

By shouting it when jumping, it became a way to prove that skydiving was completely safe. It became a tradition.
If you're a diving enthusiast or thinking of trying a discovery dive on your holiday, be careful on your return journey, as if you need to board a plane, you should wait at least (to be safe) 48 hours after surfacing from the sea or pool. The reason? As pressure decreases, bubbles can form in our blood, causing what's called "decompression sickness".

If you experienced symptoms like joint pain, skin rashes or itching, you'd need to be taken to a hyperbaric chamber. Don't take the risk!
Many professional skydivers and BASE jumpers say that "Sótano de las Golondrinas" (Cave of Swallows) is among the most impressive places in the world to practice this extreme sport. This pit, located in Mexico, is no less than 512 metres deep... The Eiffel Tower could fit inside!

5. How old is the youngest paraglider pilot?
Her name is Márcia de Almeida and she became the youngest pilot by paragliding at just 3 years old, handling the glider herself, taking off and landing without any adult intervention. She practically learned to fly before she could walk properly!

6. What speed can you reach when descending in Downhill?
This mountain biking discipline has many followers who race down mountain slopes with natural obstacles like tree trunks or artificial ones specially placed for competitions. The record is held by Eric Barone who in 2000 reached 222 km/h. Absolutely mental!

Would you dare to ride pillion on his bike?
7. How many sharks could potentially attack you in the sea?
If you're a surfing enthusiast or practice any other water sport and worry about doing it in paradise beaches where sharks might be present, you'll rest easier knowing that of the approximately 450 catalogued species, only about 30 different species have ever attacked humans, and always by mistaking them for food.

Turns out sharks aren't as fierce as they're portrayed in films!
