Skydiving Shropshire 4 prices and offers 2026

If you think that Usain Bolt is the fastest person in the world, think again! The champion sprinter can reach speeds of 45 kilometres per hour for a couple of seconds, but what if we told you that you can travel at almost 200 kilometres per hour for a whole minute! That’s what awaits you if you have the guts to go skydiving in Shropshire. Grab a parachute and get on a plane, leap out of the hatch and freefall back to Earth! Sounds good? If so, read on.

Speed is important when it comes to jumping out of a plane and falling to earth, but so is experience. You’ll be happy to know that the skydiving centre in Shropshire has the longest uninterrupted history of offering skydives to members of the public in the United Kingdom - operating at Tilstock airfield since 1964. And when speed and safety are guaranteed, you’ll be able to enjoy spectacular views of the area if you jump here. The River Mersey and Liverpool to the North, over the Peak District to the East, the Shropshire Hills to the South, and the North Wales coast to the West.

What kinds of skydiving experiences are available in Shropshire?

• Tandem jumps: if it’s never occurred to you to jump out of a plane before, you might find the whole idea a little nerve racking. That’s normal, but we can reassure you that you won’t be alone. First-time jumps are tandem jumps - that is, jumping with a partner, using the same parachute and making a safe landing together. And your partner won’t just be a stranger, as wet behind the ears as you are! You’ll be in the very capable hands of a highly skilled, experienced instructor, who will help you leave the plane correctly, control the freefall and open the shared parachute at just the right moment to make sure that your descent is smooth and graceful.

• Skydiving Courses: if you’ve jumped before, or if the experience sounds too good to be shared with another person, we have an option for you to jump alone here in Shropshire. A one day Solo Parachute Jump Course is the perfect taste of the adrenaline fuelled lifestyle. Over the course of a day, you will take part in ground based training, on subjects from equipment and safety, to jumping and problem solving (in mid air!). Training completed, you’ll ascend to a height of around 3,200ft to complete a Static Line Jump. You’ll be completely on your own during the jump, but completely safe as the parachute opens automatically to bring you down to Earth for a gentle landing. This course is sure to give you an appetite for more, and once you’ve completed your Static Line Jump you’ll be ready to attempt unaccompanied jumps from over 10,000ft.

• Charity: if you need a push to pluck up the courage to complete a skydive, consider jumping for charity. Once you’ve committed to doing it and got your friends and coworkers to sponsor you it will be much harder to pull out of the challenge! On top of that, of course, raising money for a good cause is always worth it, and an eye-catching, death-defying stunt is sure to raise a small fortune (more than a cake sale at least)! You can even jump ‘for free’ - that’s if you are fundraising for a registered associate charity, in which case the price of your jump can be deducted from the money that you bring in. Alternatively, you can book your jump as normal and start the fundraiser on your own terms.

How can you enhance the experience?

Completing this activity is guaranteed to make people see in a new light, as a fearless daredevil with a love for speed! But what if they don’t believe you when you tell them about your adventure? Or what if your charitable sponsors start making excuses when you come to collect their generous contributions? Put all doubts to rest with a cinematic record of your parachute jump by booking an edited video package. You’ll be joined by a videographer for the duration of your experience who will capture footage of preparation at ground level, the ascent in the plane and the moment of truth: the jump. Your dive will be filmed air-to-air, which means that the videographer will jump with you from the plane and open their parachute at the same time as yours, capturing every second of the descent. The footage will then be professionally edited before the finished product is sent to you.

Requirements to do this activity

To all teenagers waiting to be able to drive, drink and go clubbing - good times are closer than you think in Shropshire! The thrill of a skydive is available to you if you are 16 or older. Tandem and Static Line jumps can be completed by teenagers from this age, and anyone older. The only upper age limit is that over 70s must have a signed form from their doctor.

The only force that works on your body during freefall and parachute descents is gravity, and the strength of gravity depends on your weight. The regulations around weight depend on the type of jump you choose because a larger parachute is used in a tandem jump to support both people, while a Static Line jumper only needs a parachute for one. For a tandem jump, the maximum weight is 15 stone, or 95kg. In the case of a Static Line jump, it’s 14.5 stone, or 92kg, and a minimum weight of 8.5 stone, or 59kg. There is a sliding scale to ensure that your weight is relative to your height.

Is it safe sport?

The thousands of successful jumps that the team have completed is evidence of the safety of this sport. Parachutes have a 99.9% success rate, and two of them are carried on every jump so that there is always a backup. Apart from the parachute, the best equipment is used here, and you’ll be supplied with your own safety equipment - a jumpsuit, goggles and a helmet. You just need to wear comfortable, sporty clothes underneath and you’re ready to go! There is a small chance of minor injury caused by incorrect landing, so we recommend that you give your instructor your full attention in the pre-jump briefing, and as you approach the ground during the jump. If you stay calm and follow their instructions, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

Finally, the centre, is also doing its bit for the environment. It has a long running project to offset the carbon that is generated by the aircraft, making it possibly the only carbon neutral skydive experience in the world!

Exciting, safe, green, and even a good charity fundraising option, surely there are no excuses to stop you from doing this activity! That being the case, it’s time you started making your plans, and we’re here to help.
