Learn or practise scuba diving to immerse yourself in the aquatic world of Acapulco, Guerrero, and discover what lies under the waves. If you want to see as clearly as possible, the ideal time of year to dive is between December to February or from June to October. However, you can go scuba diving at any time of year as long as the weather doesn't interfere.

Depending on the weather, scenery, and experience you wish to gain, there are three primary sites in Acapulco where you may locate diving tours or certification courses. We'll explain what they are and try to help you choose the best one.

Where can you go scuba diving in Acapulco?

- Scuba diving at Club Nautico: Located on the Miguel Aleman coast, this is where you can get your PADI or SSI certificates. If this is your first time, we recommend the Discover Scuba course which includes one or two dives to learn how to manage your breathing and familiarise yourself with the equipment. However, if you already have some certification, you can join the Advanced Open Water Diver programme to become a 'pro' and swim like a fish in the sea! Do keep in mind, however, that you must select a speciality. If you're travelling with children, this is the place to go because there are special classes available to encourage them to discover the marine world.

- Beginner diving in Puerto Marqués: This area is the closest to Acapulco's centre and is the best site to commence your introduction to the underwater world. We say this place is ideal for novices since it has shallow beaches, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything worthwhile to see in the region. If you have one of the main certifications, you can dive and witness the beautiful corals, marine plants and marine species of varying colours and shapes, thanks to the shallow depth. This is ideal for the whole family to enjoy and share together, even with children as long as they are over 8 years old.

- Diving expeditions to Roqueta Island: This location, located in front of Caletilla Beach, is popular for diving and resting on its gorgeous beaches. There are no courses or certifications available in this section, although there are baptisms and dives for certified divers. There are sandy soils and rock formations that beckon you to investigate them beneath the water. This location is a true oasis because it has gentle waves, allowing you to move about more freely in the water. If you want to dive at your own leisure, this is the place to go. As long as you're accompanied by another professional who can show you some beautiful areas, you are good to go.

We recommend that you arrange your dates and available days ahead of time, especially if you want to earn a PADI or SSI certification, because classes can run anywhere from 1 to 5 days, depending on your level, so you know how much time you have to devote to this new diving experience.
