Company Overview

Tuscany Back Roads organizes guided quad tours in the Val d'Orcia departing from the countryside of Pienza, in the province of Siena. Leading the outings is Valentino, who founded the business and was born and raised in this valley. His name almost always comes up in the reviews of our guests, together with the patience with which he explains the quad to those who have never ridden it and the advice on the taverns in the area.

The Val d'Orcia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and our routes cross it on dirt roads, dirt paths and short stretches of asphalt with little traffic. You pass between vineyards and wheat fields, with rows of cypress trees in the foreground and Mount Amiata on the horizon. Pienza is the ideal Renaissance city redesigned at the behest of Pope Pius II, while Monticchiello and Montepulciano are the villages you will see from above along the way.

There are three tours. The shortest lasts an hour and travels 19 kilometers to a panoramic point over Monticchiello and its cypress road, and is the one we recommend for anyone getting on a quad for the first time. The Pienza tour lasts two hours and covers 38 kilometers of easy and medium level. It goes around the city to show you from all sides, then continues towards Monticchiello and through the woods to a viewpoint over Montepulciano. The sunset tour lasts three hours and stops in Monticchiello for an aperitif on a panoramic terrace.

Each tour is booked with the quad for one if you drive alone, or with the quad for two if there are two of you on the same vehicle. The second is the formula for couples and those who give a gift for a birthday or anniversary. Families also choose it, because you can get on as a passenger as early as 6 years old. A maximum of 6 quads depart on each exit. We also organize tailor-made itineraries for groups and companies.

To drive you need at least 18 years of age and a B license, while you don't need to have already driven a quad because before leaving we will explain how to do it. The price includes driving and rental of the quad with helmet, petrol and insurance. We ask you to wear sports clothing suitable for the season and closed shoes. We go out from April to October. If the weather does not allow it to be done safely, we will propose another date or time.
