Company Overview

Taking the famous Cares Route is one of the strongest reasons why so many visitors come to Asturias. We carry out this 11 kilometer hiking route in the Picos de Europa National Park, in the eastern part of the region. But we are not only dedicated to hiking, because 4x4 routes are our other specialty. We have access to restricted roads in the Picos de Europa, so you can enjoy the engine and speed of an off-road vehicle in a paradise.

The Cares Route passes through the gorges of the homonymous river, and is the gorge that separates the Cornión massif (western) from the Urrieles (central). The trail is low difficulty, suitable for the whole family and for tourists who want to get to know this natural area without making enormous physical effort.

The 4x4 routes are exciting. We will go aboard our Jeep along dirt roads on journeys of 4 hours, in the part before or after the Cares Route. The collection points are Caín and Poncebos, and we will give you an interpretive route in which you will learn about the history of the towns in this part of Asturias and the evolution of the livestock farming way of life in the area. p>

Which prefer? The best thing is that you can choose both activities.

Summary Hiking

The Cares Route is a mandatory trail if you like nature and come to Asturias. With almost 12 kilometers in length, these paths cross the cares river valley in the Picos de Europa of Asturias.

Located in the southeast of the province, it is an important enclave due to the natural separation of the western and central massifs, which is why it is known as the Divine Throat. So we will head on a low difficulty hiking routewatched by the peaks of Urrieles and Cornión.

We will begin the route from Poncebos, walking up a climb of around 1 kilometer and a half and a descent of 600 meters. The difference is very low, so the physical effort will be small and suitable for children, young people and adults at an acceptable level of fitness. The most complicated, and at the same time the most exciting, part of walking this trail, apart from the views, is the rock floor. Irregular, but totally natural, it will immerse us in a rural and mystical atmosphere.

You will see the livestock life of this area, walking near the cows and sheep that have served as food for many Asturian generations for centuries, in a landscape that remains intact, fortunately.

Bring comfortable clothing and footwear for the mountains, because this route is so well known that you will regret it if you come nearby and don't do it.

Summary 4x4 Tours

Do you like country routes driving an off-road vehicle? The Cares River Gorge, in the Picos de Europa, has some dirt trails between mountains that will make you want to take the wheel of a 4x4 to explore nature for hours most beautiful in eastern Asturias.

The 4x4 route that we organize is interpretive, in which we will go along roads restricted to most vehicles except for our clients. These permits allow us to step on the accelerator in the valley formed by this stream between the central and western massifs, better known as Urrieles and Cornión, respectively.

There are two starting options. One is at 10 in the morning from Cangas de Onís, passing through Sajambre and ending in Caín at 2 in the afternoon. There is the option of hiring a picnic or a menu of homemade Asturian food to complete the experience.

The other alternative is to leave from Caín at 3:30 p.m., taking the interpretive route to the other side and with the afternoon lights.

Both routes last 4 hours, enough time to feel the impressive environment that the Picos de Europa offer thanks to an all-terrain vehicle that can do everything. The guide will make several stops to contemplate the landscape that surrounds us, with binoculars with which to observe the species of birds and other animals that inhabit these rocks. In addition, he will explain the livestock life of the towns that are still inhabited in this area.

Go ahead and come to Asturias, the Cares route awaits you in a 4x4.
