Laser Tag Devon 12 prices and offers 2026

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away… Or actually, 50 years ago in the USA, fans of the Star Wars movies used the latest in infrared technology to create a simulation of the laser blaster battles of the big screen. The result was laser tag, a combat simulation game played with pistols that shoot infrared beams to register hits on receptors on the opponent’s equipment. This is now enjoyed around the world, but what better place to get involved than in the homeland of another Star Wars superfan? In 2018 motorists were alarmed to see a 4.5 metre tall Imperial Scout Walker from the 1983 film Return of the Jedi poised above a busy stretch of the A38 road in Devon. To their relief, this turned out to be not an alien invasion, but the tribute of local man Paul Parker to his favourite films. The lifesize replica was adopted by the town and continues to keep watch on the roads of Devon to this day.

Although the most famous space age weapon in the Star Wars universe is the lightsaber, the laser blaster is much more common and plays a key part in the battles of the epic story. In the forests, deserts and icefields of desert worlds, in the cities and temples of strange cities and in the corridors and galleries of huge spaceships, the fate of the galaxy is decided by laser battles. You can recreate your favourite scenes from the movies right here on Earth, and Devon boasts some of the best and most varied laser tag experiences in the universe. From indoor battle arenas, to open air combat missions, you can take your pick of the sci-fi adventure.

Where are the best places to play laser tag in Devon?

• Exeter: in the woods outside the regional capital you can unleash your inner trooper in an outdoor game of laser tag. Bring your team and face off against the opponents or choose zombie mode where you have to survive an undead onslaught for as long as possible. The open air arenas feature natural and manmade cover, as well as World War II and Cold War themed game zones.

• Plymouth: if you prefer the idea of playing laser tag indoors, Plymouth has some specially designed arenas which are a must for all laser fans. Multilevel game zones with light, sound and atmospheric effects like dry ice make this an immersive combat experience. You’ll have to find the most advantageous spots to outplay the enemy and laser them into submission!

• Tavistock: on the edge of the wilderness of Dartmoor, an outdoor laser tag experience is waiting for you that will transport you to fantasy land. You’ll play through a multitude of different environments, from the jungle to the village, and wield some top of the range laser weapons. You can choose from assault rifles, machine guns and snipers depending on your preference, and if you work as a team, your opponents won’t stand a chance!

• Torbay: the English Riviera is more famous for rest and relaxation, but you never know when you might be called up for laser combat! Torbay boasts a purpose built outdoor laser arena that covers 3 acres of open air terrain. This is the setting for numerous imaginative game styles and missions, so you’ll be kept entertained for the duration of your visit and probably want to come back.

• Newton Abbot: another laser tag favourite on the South Coast, outside Newton Abbot the fun is guaranteed. This is an open air battlefield and boasts some of the latest laser tag technology. Whether you’re looking for carefully planned strategy or complete chaos, you’ll find it here - and to help you get into the spirit of the game you can put on some camouflage face paint.

• Ottery St Mary: two things make the laser tag experience at Escot Park stand out. The first is that it has a full-on laser turret in the outdoor game arena - if your team can take control of this fully automatic 50 calibre laser machine gun, your enemies are in deep trouble! The other is that you can choose a night time experience. You’ll have to work on your tactics to exploit the conditions and make it work to your advantage, before you put the other team to bed.

• Barnstable: in North Devon you’ll find one of the biggest outdoor laser tag arenas in the Southwest. You’ll battle through the woodland and take control of the installations and buildings using long range laser guns which are accurate at distances of up to 400m. With over 30 years of experience, this laser adventure is a sure bet to make your day.

Requirements to do this activity

The infrared signals of laser tag work on the same principle as your TV remote control, so there’s no danger involved in getting zapped. On top of that, unlike in other combat sports like paintball and airsoft, there are no projectiles flying through the air in laser tag. All of this makes it safe and accessible to all. There is a minimum age requirement, so that all players understand the game and don’t find the size of an outdoor battlefield, or the effects of an indoor arena, overwhelming. In Devon, this is usually 8 years old, but children as young as 6 can take part in some centres.

If there’s one thing that we can learn from watching Star Wars, it’s that you need to rely on your friends if you’re going to succeed. That’s why we recommend laser tag for your birthday celebration, star or hen party, or corporate away day. You can team up with your mates and work together, or take to opposing teams and see who's the toughest.

What kinds of games are available?

Just like your favourite shoot ‘em up video games, there are a wide variety of game modes to enjoy in laser tag. The classic deathmatch is always good fun, but you’ll also find zombie mode, capture the flag, VIP escort and many other mission scenarios in Devon to put your tactics and teamwork to the test.

We mentioned that laser tag is safe and pain-free. If that seems a bit boring to you, in Devon you can try out the new big thing: Hypershock. What’s the point of trying to find cover if getting hit doesn’t hurt? Well, in Hypershock, a direct hit will trigger electric shock pads on your equipment to make you pay for your clumsiness! This game is for serious combat fans who want to perfect their strategy and their aim, and so it’s only available for adults.
