What to expect from a fishing trip
Most fishing trips are at sea, on a small boat with a skipper who knows where the fish are feeding that day. Trips of one to two hours go after mackerel close to the coast and suit beginners and families: you drop a line with several hooks and reel them in, sometimes with more than one fish at a time. Half-day and full-day trips head further out for wreck and reef fishing, bass or pollock, and specialist boats go out for sharks and bluefin tuna, which are tagged and released.
There's also freshwater fishing: guided sessions on rivers and lakes, and fly fishing lessons where you learn to cast before trying for real. Rods, tackle and bait are normally provided. What you catch depends on the season, the tide and plain luck, and no skipper can promise a full bucket. On some trips you keep what you catch, on others it's catch and release. Lunch isn't always included, so pack food for the longer trips.

Do they need to have fished before?
No. The skipper or guide sets up the rod, shows how to cast and helps unhook the fish.
What if the sea is too rough?
Boats don't go out when the sea or the wind make it unsafe. In that case they agree a new date with the provider.
Can two people share it?
Each angler has their own place on board. If the voucher doesn't stretch to both places, they add the difference, or you give a voucher to each of them. Some boats can also be hired for a private group.
