The Angelita cenote is one of the best known in the world of diving, this due to its thick sulfur cloud in the center at 24 m depth, from which beautiful trees and a small moon-shaped island. Once below the nitrogen sulfide cloud, you navigate in total darkness since natural light is blocked by the sulfur cloud. In the background you can see trunks and remains of vegetation, which gives it an underwater forest effect. This tour is recommended for experienced divers because the cenote reaches 40 meters deep and the route is highly difficult.
Another characteristic of this cenote is that it has a halocaline, a physical phenomenon where fresh water mixes with salt water, which creates blurred visibility. The different densities of the two types of water mean that they do not mix, leaving the fresh water above the salty water. In the case of the Angelita cenote it is like going from one landscape to another, the first 24 m are of salt water and the bottom 32 m of salt water, separated by the sulfur cloud that we mentioned before.
If you prefer, you can also choose the Cenote El Pit, located in the middle of the jungle. It is the largest underwater cave in the world and is one of the deepest cenotes in the area at 130 m deep. Likewise, in this cenote a halocaline is formed and its characteristic is that light penetrates the cenote, illuminating the entire cavern with a laser effect. The ceiling is adorned by numerous stalactites. Also recommended for experienced divers.Check availability for this option.
