Hiking in the Hayedo de Montejo, a day

In the Central System there are incredible places, but none like the spectacular Hayedo de Montejo.

We are not going to do the classic route, but we are going to do another route, so that you can appreciate the wonderful beech forest from above.

During the fall, this route enjoys its maximum splendor, as you will enjoy a unique combination of colors.

You will do the entire route in the company of a professional who will interpret the landscape that we will see. He will tell you about the formation of this natural place and tell you stories about towns in the area, some already abandoned.

The Beech Forest of Montejo is made up of 250 hectares, in the heart of the Central System.

We will meet at 8:00 in the morning in Nuevos Ministerios (or Plaza Castilla, if that's better for you).

The route begins in El Cardoso de la Sierra and we border the Jarama on its left bank. We will see some of the most important beech trees. We will arrive at the source of Jarama and ascend to 1771 meters, where we will achieve unique views. We will return to the right of the Jarama.

The difference in elevation is 620 meters, and the distance is 14 kilometers.

On the way back, we can stop in Montejo de la Sierra to walk through its streets and visit the interpretation center.
