Route along the Trails of the Hermits 3 days

Three-day hiking route that runs through the spiritual heart of La Rioja. It unites the monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla (World Heritage Site) and Valvanera (patron saint of La Rioja) with the town of Ezcaray (first tourist town).

The route enters the Sierra de la Demanda, following the paths used by hermits and pilgrims who were precursors of these monasteries. Since the 5th century, hermitism has been a widespread phenomenon in La Rioja. The ancient settlers of these lands looked for the most hidden and beautiful corners to indulge in meditation.

It is a circular route, with long stages, along little-traveled paths and in perpetual contact with nature. It runs through mountain landscapes, at the headwaters of the Najerilla and Oja rivers, sometimes exceeding 1,700 meters in altitude.

The programming includes accommodation at the end points of the stage (Valvanera, San Millán and Ezcaray) in double rooms and on a half-board basis (dinner + breakfast). Most of the route is signposted and the organization provides the necessary orientation material (map and GPS) and an assistance protocol at any point along the route, operational for twelve hours a day. It is also possible to hire the assistance of a guide and/or the transportation of luggage.
