Company Overview
Peak District Mines Historical Society are dedicated to preserving old and disused mines – an important part of the United Kingdoms industrial history. Formed in 1959 by geologists who worked at Sheffield University, the society has a museum where they display many artifacts. The society owns the lease on the surface of Magpie Mine, and also has a field centre for use by it’s members.
Other historical mines that the society is currently working on to preserve are;
- Silence Mine – The society is researching, documenting preserving and managing this historical site.
- High Rake – Finished in 2008 – this old mining site now has information panels to inform visitors of it’s history.
