Tuscany's coastline, bounded by the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, is diversified and unique, with sandy beaches alternating with stunning headlands near Livorno, Piombino, Castiglione della Pescaia, and on the Argentario. The Tuscan Archipelago's islands provide breathtaking coastlines, high and rocky, as well as lovely and picturesque landscapes to see from a boat. Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to visit the areas where Napoleon Bonaparte was banished during the 19th century in Tuscany, namely on the island of Elba.

If you intend to rent a boat in Tuscany, keep in mind that some regions are restricted. The five natural reserves of the Tuscan archipelago, Gorgona, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, and Giannutri, each have varying sailing speeds and distances from the coast restrictions. Furthermore, the Secche della Meloria, which runs along the coast near Livorno, is a marine protected area with limited access and navigation freedom.

Where can you rent a boat in Tuscany?

· Southern Tuscany:
- From Marina di Scarlino, we recommend a skippered sailboat (Sun Odyssey 35, Cyclades 39.3) with a length of 12 meters, which can easily reach the neighbouring islands of Argentario, Giglio Island, or Capraia Island, allowing you to observe the beautiful flora and fauna of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. You can hire a larger boat, 15 meters long (Benetau Oceanis 50, Bavaria 45 Cruiser), fitted with cabins, bathrooms, and beds, for a week's vacation or a weekend on the high seas.

- The port in Porto San Vincenzo, in the province of Livorno, opened in 2010 and offers the chance to rent several types of boats, including motorboats, sailing boats, catamarans, and rubber dinghies. The Gulf of Baratti and the Island of Elba are excellent day boat excursions from here (Isola dei Topi, Seno di Ortano and the Gulf of Porto Azzurro among the best inlets).

- If you have a nautical license and are a resident of Grosseto, you can rent a boat in Monte Argentario. These boats have a dimension of 7 meters, can carry ten people on board, directly from the Argentario Promontory. You can embark on a memorable snorkelling tour and see the Tuscan Archipelago's coast. The islands of Giglio and Giannutri (Protected Natural Area) are recommended in addition to the island of Montecristo, which is further offshore.

· Northern Tuscany:
- In the lovely Versilia, namely in Forte dei Marmi, we advise renting a boat with a skipper for a day, with a capacity of 8 people, to speed along the coast and visit places like Viareggio, Portovenere, Palmaria, and the majestic Cinque Terre. It's available for leasing with or without a license.

· Tuscan Archipelago:
- If you're on vacation or live on the island of Elba, we recommend Marciana Marina for sailing lessons or chartering a luxury yacht. You can also go to Portoferraio for chartering the state-of-the-art Lagoon 40 catamaran and speed to the coast of nearby Corsica.

In the region, Castiglioncello, Castiglione della Pescaia, Porto di Cecina, Viareggio, Marina di Pisa, Marina di Massa, and Porto Ercole are all popular and preferred for boat tours.

As you can see, Tuscany has several ports from which you can set sail or rent a boat. So, what exactly are you waiting for? Renting a boat has never been more cost-effective than in Tuscany. And, contrary to popular belief, there are deals to suit all budgets.
