Walk in the Ajco

If there’s one mountainous landmark in Mexico City, it’s Ajusco—the mountain massif that still retains its (extinct) volcano and encompasses a spectacular forest, originally named "Florestas Aguas". Without delving too deeply into its legend and history, hiking through its lush greenery will feel nothing short of magical.

Our proposed route isn’t the most challenging for hiking in Ajusco, as it’s moderately difficult, but it rewards you with stunning views as you ascend through its woodlands.

The trail covers just under 15.53 km. As a circular route, it takes just over 5 hours, including pauses to admire the surroundings, catch your breath, and tighten your laces.

The cumulative elevation gain is roughly 608m on the ascent and 677m on the descent, with a maximum altitude of 3,938 metres reached during the hike.

While we recommend tackling the route in summer for milder weather and lighter gear, witnessing Ajusco blanketed in snow is a spectacle you should experience at least once in your lifetime.
