Although climbing Chipinque Peak is one of the most rewarding experiences for those seeking a different kind of hike, the truth is that good physical condition alone won't suffice - you'll also need to mentally prepare for the significant elevation changes you'll face both ascending and descending. This is particularly true if you opt for a more technical hiking route.
There are various hiking trails available depending on your skill level, and the one we're proposing is one of the more moderate options - though by no means less exciting, as it offers one of the most spectacular panoramic views of Monterrey.
The starting point is located very close to San Pedro Garza García. This is a circular route over rocky terrain where you'll walk just over 3 km, beginning at an altitude of 876 m and reaching about 1,293 m at the highest point.
The entire route shouldn't take more than about 40 minutes, as the main challenge you'll encounter relates to the elevation gain, with approximately 472 m of ascent and 98 m of descent. It's perfect for a pleasant outdoor excursion, even with children!
While Chipinque enjoys excellent weather year-round, we particularly recommend scheduling your hike during sunset. This way, you'll witness a unique light spectacle showcasing the Monterrey metropolitan area in a whole new way. Just be mindful not to let nightfall catch you unprepared for your descent.

Of course, you could choose much more challenging hikes to reach Chipinque - bear in mind its maximum altitude reaches 2,229 metres above sea level - but our proposed route offers a perfect way to exercise while discovering one of the most significant landmarks of the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Cumbres del Rey National Park.
