Sport-Class introduces us to an exhibition by artist Alfonso Cruz, who has been painting underwater for several years. A unique passion that has taken him around the world, making him the star of nearly 40 solo exhibitions and over 50 group shows. Germany, Andorra, and the United States have witnessed his extensive career, which spans various realms of the art world (poetry, painting, and writing).

One day, he decided to venture into the world of underwater painting, leading him to explore diverse waters such as the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Red Sea. This hobby, which would later become his profession, has seen him give lectures, star in films, and paint at prestigious international events like the XX International Underwater Film Festival in San Sebastián, among many others.
To create his works, he has had to become an expert diver, allowing him to submerge and paint live underwater scenes, vividly capturing the colourful qualities of the species that inhabit them. Flora and fauna take centre stage on canvases that are first waterproofed with a layer of chlorinated rubber to prevent the oils from dissolving.

Realism and expressionism blend in paintings where shipwrecks, caves, and marine landscapes appear more alive than ever—offering those who cannot dive a chance to discover the beauty hidden beneath the waves. The colours shine in unparalleled splendour, with reds, yellows, and blues contrasting against explosions of pure white that flood the artwork with light.
Without a doubt, this is an art form truly worth experiencing, where you can explore snapshots of oil paintings that reflect the vastness of the marine world. Head to Girona and enjoy one of the finest exhibitions you’ll ever see.
