What a yacht charter is like
A yacht charter means one or more days on a sailing yacht, and there are two ways to do it. On a skippered trip, a professional skipper sails the boat, and you can relax on deck, take the helm or help with the sails if you want to learn. Half-day and full-day sails follow the coast and drop into sheltered harbours and bays, some with lunch or meals on board. On a shared sail you join other people on the same boat, and a private charter is just for your group, for a birthday or a celebration.
On a bareboat charter you take the yacht without a skipper, for a weekend, a few weekdays or a full week, and sail it yourselves. These yachts have cabins, a galley and a shower, and sleep from 6 to 11 people. Sailing depends on the wind and the sea, so on skippered trips the skipper chooses the route on the day and may change it for comfort or safety.
What you need
- No sailing experience is needed on a skippered trip: the skipper sails the yacht.
- Bareboat charters come without a skipper, so someone in the group has to be able to sail the yacht.

If the wind or the sea make it unsafe to sail, they agree a new date with the provider.
Can the whole group use it?
A private charter is for the whole group. The voucher covers what it can and the rest is paid on top, or you give a voucher to each person.
Is food included?
Some trips include lunch or meals on board and others don't. Each listing says what's included.
